Thanks everyone. My main reason of posting this is for the newbies who dont want to listen. i was also hard headed at first and didnt want to hear the truth that i wasnt doing it right. just listen to these people, they know what theyre talking about. Not all, but most do. click on there profiles and see how long theyve been on here. wooden enclosures (front opening) and whole food. correct temps arent hard, too hot/too cold: change wattage of FLOOD bulb(s). outside dirt. u will have a beautiful healthy lizard if u just do what theyre telling u.

and steve, not exactly sure on sex, krusty says female so im going with that
thanks again

it wasnt bad, i was getting any age/size mice (live) for a dollar each. huge handfulls of crickets for a dollar. but about a week ago, sadly, the girl that used to give me "hook-ups" at the pet store was fired:(
so now im back to $2.50 mice and 10 crickets for a dollar. but i just found a website that ships frozen at crazy low prices. havent tried them yet but will shortly.

Thats a coooooooool looking monitor, cant wait for my merten’s to grow big as at the moment doesn’t look like he/she has grown but we took photo’s when first introduced he/she to viv and o’h yer has grown looking back,i’m not being smart or getting involved in post fights but can you handle or touch the monitor?i was the same at the start with set ups as i’ve had bearded dragons and eastern water dragons with no problems, the bearded dragon’s were able to handle on a daily base but the eastern’s were very flighty so handling them was only if had to but could get very close and hand feed them and the even ran up my arm to feed but to go diving in and pick up like a cat no way they took of.My merten’s can do stuff around him/her but to pick up takes off like a bullet so i dont go chasing monitor but im slowly feeding the monitor and looks like he/she is settling down as at the start asked around as the monitor was hiding all the time and got information from this site about juvenile monitors and there needs was given information just little things such as raising basking temp and humidity and dont go chasing monitor around the viv let the monitor settle in,so hopfully mine grows up like yours and we are looking forward to building ANOTHER outdoor enclosure for our merten’s.

Cheers Paul.

My guess would have had to be female as well , i keep a male niloticus and head shape plus jaw curvature on male’s are usually broader and a thicker curved lower jaw (i say usually as there are also "inderterminate" animals)

male head shot for ref:
