 Black throat monitor enclosure

Just renovated my 8x4x6 enclosure, I’ve included some progress pics and the final results.

All the lights are controlled digitally by wall mounted timers, I’ve installed a MistKing professional system controlled by a digital seconds timer. It runs several times throughout the day.

The corner hide box is 3’x3’x5"... he still has to grow into it a bit. The other elevated hide box is also still a loose fit. The basking surfaces sit at 125 and 135 respectively. 2 feet of a sandy/peaty loam mixture. It’s got lots of packing down to do. The wash tub is plumbed and I’m working on installing a filtering system because I’m keeping a colony of minnows and crayfish in it, so eventually I will be adding a pump/filter/water feature to it.

I really went the whole 9 yards with this build. It wasn’t cheap, but I am VERY happy with the outcome as this is my first time doing anything like this.

Congrats on the build. The enclosure looks terrific especially it being your first.

He looks happy and healthy which is always a great thing to see.

How big is your black throat?

He just pushed past 3ft last month, and he’ll be roughly a year old next month. I’m astounded by his growth rate! Some part of me doesn’t want him to stop, but I know I’ll be lucky to see 5’

He’s fairly well tempered too, as far as monitors go. A little hissy, that’s about it.

Good job on the cage!

Feel free to post it on the "cages" thread that’s been bumped up since 2007-8 too.

The fence/lattice allows the lizards to climb the walls. It’s exercise and a little more things for them to do. Can also be for a path to get up to a platform that makes them work for it a little too vs using a ramp or log. Cheap and easy to do.
