Sealing savanna monitor enclosure from moisture and rott I am new to this form I have been looking and reading forms apon forms and can’t find the exact answer I need. I have had reptiles since I was 10 I got my first snake he is 16 years old now but have recently got my first savanna after about 6 months of reading I decides to get one. His enclosure is almost done I am to the point now where it needs to be sealed. It is 6’ L x 3’ W x 4’ T framed in 2x4’s and 3/8" plywood. To seal the inside from moisture and rott I was wanting to use Thompson water seal 2-3 coats letting it dry and air out very well then 2-3 coats of polycralic just to put a hard coat over it. Would this be ok? I live in fl so the days are 100 deg I was going to let it sit in the sun to dry and air out I have left the top off for now just to help with the drying. For the bottom under the substrate I was wanting to know some good ideas I was thinking Fiberglas reisn and up the walls 12-15" to protect it from rotting. The cracks and seams I was going to use 100% pure siclocone silicone. For the humidity I was looking at an automatic mister mist king looks to be the best anyone had any luck with these? Any input would be greatly appreciated

Sealing savanna monitor enclosure from moisture and rott Your enclosure is too small to begin with. For sealing, use FRP panels on the area where the dirt will be. Then silicone EVERYTHING. Then use the water seal on the wood. And if your tank is sealed enough, you won’t need a misting sytem for humidity.

Sealing savanna monitor enclosure from moisture and rott Ok and the thompsons water seal is that enough for the wood or the thompsons and polyacrilic together? And what would be a good dry time 2-3 weeks?

Sealing savanna monitor enclosure from moisture and rott As far as the dry time, just let it dry / air out until the smell goes away (at least 2 weeks). I’m not sure about whether or not the Thompson’s will be enough but more sealing is better in this case because if you do too little then your cage is going to end up junk after a while from the wood that does get exposed. Better to over do it than to under do it.

Sealing savanna monitor enclosure from moisture and rott the frp is kinda spendy. linoleum (not sure if i spelled that right) works good in place of. if your support beams are on the inside of your ply-wood or whatever your using then linoleum flooring would probably be alot easier to be cut and glued on and around them than frp. if you havent built your enclosure yet, scroll down to a thread called "how to cages" and use that.

Sealing savanna monitor enclosure from moisture and rott It’s for the most part all framed out and plywood is on I had to cut around the floor to get it to fit in being the 2x4’s are on the inside a good jig saw should cut that shouldn’t it? Il check both options but using a fiberglass resin that you mix and brush on that not a good one to use?

Sealing savanna monitor enclosure from moisture and rott I’d stay away from using fiberglass yourself, if you monitor digs to it and starts scratching it... Not good at all its very harmful to humans, let alone reptiles.
Milkweed is right frp is pricey, about $60 for a 4x8 sheet here in Canada. But well worth it. I’m not familiar with linoleum, but deff check it out if your on a budget.
