 Feeding turtle eggs?

My Eastern Painted Turtle just laid 3 eggs which are more than likely infertile. The eggs are pretty small and I was wondering if I could feed them to my sav or if that is a bad idea. I have heard of people feeding infertile quail or snake eggs to other monitor species but I wanted to check about turtle eggs for a sav here first in case there is any reason people don’t other than that it’s just not common to have the eggs laying around.

For the time being the eggs are in an incubator just in case so there’s no rush.

It’s fine. I toss Beardie eggs to Monitirs all the time just because I’m done with dragons. Just don’t feel ONLY eggs for extended periods of time.

Even if I wanted to do that I wouldn’t have enough of them haha. Only the 3 to speak of.

Thanks for the reply.

I fed him one of the 3 eggs today that was definitely infertile. One of the eggs is fertile for sure and the last I’m not sure of but I think it’s going to end up being infertile also.

He seemed to enjoy the egg although to me it looked like he was having trouble getting it down. It took about 30 seconds for him to eat it. He managed to crack the egg in his mouth and drink the insides before trying to swallow the rest of the shell whole. I thought he might be choking on it and that it might have been too big for him because it was only slightly smaller in diameter than his throat is but he managed to get it down completely and started looking for more. I might not feed the other possibly infertile egg to him since I thought he look like he was having issues with this one. Just thought I’d update on this.

Monitors are very smart. They KNOW that if they just destroy the egg on the ground that they’ll lose all that liquid inside, so they lift the egg up gently in their mouths, raise their heads up and then crack it to "drink" the insides. It’s cool to watch and they all seem to sort of "know" to do this.

When I had my Argus, I gave her large chicken eggs. So she learnt that she couldn’t fit it in her mouth and crack it, so she rolled it up against a log/wall and then rammed the egg with her nose - she realised this made a hole small enough for the liquid to stay in yet large enough for her to get the liquid out.

It was extremely fascinating to watch!

I’m definitely keeping the fertile one, The other I don’t think is fertile so it doesn’t matter.

Only very rarely do I - to be honest, recently I haven’t at all. It was just a good way to distract my Argus when I wanted to go in the cage and didn’t feel like being lunch!

I feed my Nile a chicken egg every once in a while too. I always hard boil it. Is raw better for them?

Yes raw is better for him. The way I see it is. They don’t have someone go out an scramble their eggs or boil it for them so why do it for them in captivity?
