 Savanna moditer help

you are going to need to have a 50 gallon wide or long,150walt bulb, turn off at 8:00pm and turn when you wake up, and you are not going to need humitiy have sand deep enough so he can dig.

 Savannah monitor

You can start with a 55gal.
But bear in mind it will out grow that in about 6 months.
Dirt is the substrate of choice.
Your Monitor will need a basking spot with a surface temp around 130f
the warm side temps should be 80-90 and the cool side in the 70s
Give it a water bowl big enough to soak in and leave it on the cool side of the tank.
Also have hides on both ends.
Cover the top of the tank (use wood ,glass, plexiglass )

As far as lighting the smart ones say flood lights and I agree.
simple from the hardware store GE 45-60 watt flood lights .

Like I said they grow fast so once you get the tank set up you better be thinking about the next (hopefully final) enclosure .
Here is an example

Eddy well over 20"

 Savanna moditer help

I keep my babies in 40 gallon breeders for the first 2 to 3 months.
I cover the top with a piece of plywood leaving a hole for the basking light and I drill about 6 - 1/4 inch holes on the cool side to let excess heat to escape.
I use a 45 watt floodlight 6 to 8 inches above a platform.
I leave the light on 24/7.
A 150 watt will cook the poor lizard
I use dirt as a substrate. Sand is worthless. It will not hold a burrow or retain moisture. It will make your humidity raise too high.
Go read the caresheets on this site.
BayouBeast has one and so do I. Mine is easier to read and understand.
