 Question about Sav

I found this forum very helpful last time I posted so I wanted to post another question. My Savannah, which I’ve had for about 2 mos, spends the majority of his time underneath a rock. He won’t bask nor will he ever venture over to the cooler side of the aquarium, so I’m worried about his thermoregulation. I’m also reluctant to remove his hiding shelter so that I can pick him up and handle him, because I don’t want to violate his sense of security under there. But he barely comes out from under there so I can’t get him out to handle him. Is he just really antisocial? What can I do to get him to come out, at least for his own health? Thanks.

 Question about Sav

Sounds like you need to up the humidity, underground is more humid for him so he won’t come out, make t higher and he should be back to his normal self. Like 55-60%.

 Question about Sav

Temp on cool side is 84. Temp on hot side is 95. Humidity is 45%. I should add that the only times I do see him out from under the rock, he shrinks back under when he sees me walk in or move around room. Very skitterish.

 Question about Sav

Ya get a 130 degree basking spot and up the humidity and he should be fine. Babies are gonna be more agressive, it’s good that yours is agressive.

Oh and you probably have him in a aquarium with a screen top right? If so build a wood top, drill some holes in it and place the light in the enclosure.

 Question about Sav

What and how are you feeding it? If you want it to come out, try dangling a pinkie or fuzzie with some tongs. It will begin to associate you with food. That’s not always a good thing, but it seems to work for me.
