 Savannah Monitor Enclosure?

Okay. My little guy is small, so there is no need for an enclosure right now. But I do plan on building one for him when he gets bigger. I was wondering if you guys could post some pictures of your enclosures or maybe give me some drawings and ideas as well. I need some time to plan it out, save up for supplies, etc. Also, if you could post some pictures of your fully grown Savvys, so I have some idea of what mine would look like, that would be great too! Thanks!
P.S., here is my little guy "Ozzy."

 Savannah Monitor Enclosure?

Here are a few pics of my "intermediate" enclosure for Bosco, my sav...

I stayed as simple as possible, and didn’t really worry about looks; good quality for less money was my concern. I used 3/8 inch plywood, just cut 4 pieces 4 ft x 2 ft, and two pieces 2 ft x 2 ft. I cut out the hole for the window(notice the window is up high to allow for deep substrate), connected the pieces using drywall screws, attached plastic light panels to the inside using liquid nails. Then I attached a piece of plexiglass for the window using liquid nails. I used two hinges to connect the door(on top), and added two latches to keep it closed. I used weather stripping all around the top to make it airtight, and cut a rectangular hole in the cool end, then attached a vent(the kind used for heat/air units, usually mounted on the floor). The vent can be opened or closed as much as it needs to be to reach proper temps/humidity. I sealed all corners with GE silicone caulk. I attached a floodlight fixture to the underside of the lid, ran the wire through a hole drilled in the top, and wired it to a plug. I also wired in a switch for my convenience. There’s still room to add one or two more fixtures if I need to. I use a 45 watt halogen floodbulb, $5.99 at Wal-Mart. The total cost of this 4x2x2 ft cage was around $130, and total labor time was 6 hours, not bad in my opinion. By the way, this is Bosco; He was 6 1/2 inches when I got him in March, now he’s just over 14 inches...
Bosco, 7 inches

Bosco, 12 inches

Bosco today, over 14 inches

Hmmm, I like:) Thanks for posting. I thought about going to a flea market and buying a really big bureau or a dresser and constructing an enclosure out of that. Would that be possible at all?

It may be possible, but I like the idea of starting from scratch, that way you have exactly what you want. Also, you’d probably spend more money if you did it that way, because the wood itself only cost me about $25. The most money is spent on the other stuff, such as plexiglass, hinges, light fixtures, silicone, frp(or light panels, or whatever you use for lining).

If you want to add to the looks, You could use my same design, and just use white frp(fiber reinforced plastic) instead of clear light panels. The frp costs about twice as much, but would make a better looking interior. You could also paint or stain/polyurethane the outside, and add trim around the edges; it just depends on how much you want to spend. I was just shooting for quality the most economical way, since I spend enough already on my other critters(colombian boa, three beardies who are starting to breed, two crested geckos, one pixie frog, one Mexican redknee tarantula, and my breeding colony of mice. I also breed three species of feeder roach and mealworms

Well, for now, I’m making something simple because I might be moving, and I would build something really beautiful in the new house. And you’ve got a colombian, grrr, I’n jealous!! Those are so beautiful:) As for me, I have a kingsnake, cornsnake, two ball pythons, two ribbons, my savvy, yellowthroat plated, tokay gecko, golden gecko, house gecko, leopard gecko, leopard frogs, tree frogs, pixie frog, african clawed frogs, grey frogs, a chillean rose hair tarantula, betta fish, and a cat. I also breed bettas, feeder guppies, crickets, mice, rats, and gerbils. My house is a zoo and I love every minute of it:)
