Question for GUYS only. 
Hey. I told my mom that I want to take a field herping trip and she freaked out and said this is bizzare for a girl to want to do this, and I’m too strange, and I’m not supposed to talk about reptiles ever again. I don’t know why, but she got so offended by this. So, question for the guys: Do you find it strange for a girl to want to go field herping, or do you like the idea? Thanks.

There’s nothing wrong with a girl who’s into reptiles. To be honest, most people think even a guy who keeps reptiles is strange or weird, lol. My wife loves reptiles almost as much as I do, and we’ve talked about how we’d love to go on a herping trip. Almost everyone in both my family and hers thinks we are both nuts

When my son gets old enough to date, I hope he can find a girl that likes to go catch snakes and lizards half as much as he does.
You would be amazed at how many girlfriends I lost over the years because was too busy nursing a sick reptile to go out.
I went through quite a few until I found one willing to put up with my crap. I am thinking about keeping this one.

Thank you to all the guys who replied, and please keep them coming:) I’m girly, don’t get me wrong, I just love entomology and herpetology. But if it’s a choice between going to a movie, or digging for bugs/snakes, most likely I will choose the bugs and snakes. My parents just bought a house in upstate NY and instead of thinking "oh wow, my friends and I will PARTY!" I thought "oh my god let’s go herping!!!". My mom told me to shut up and go do something normal. So anyway. Guys. Who wants to go grab a stick and overturn some rocks with me???

LOL i wish my friends that are girls were into herps. I’ve never met one woman who has any kind of interest in them. Of course they always say, "Can I see your monitor!" and of course i show them chomp and they go "Oh my god that things huge, GET IT AWAY FROM ME!!" Thats the usually response. I wish i met a girl who likes them just as much as i do but that doesnt happen here in West Palm Beach. Girls here are to worried about there tans and looks and the mall and clothes, etc...you get the drift. I think its great that ur into herps. Its awesome!

I was with a girl for 1 year and than i strted geting in to reptiles.. and she told me to dump the reptiles or she will leave..I told her to start heading.

Thanks for all you guys who replied!! My birthday is in about a week, and my mom said that if I dare ask for any herp paraphenalia she’ll kill me. So I asked for a copy of The Notebook :-. But anyway, I’ll be at the White Plain’s show on July 10th, so anyone attending, come wish me happy birthday, and take me HERPING WITH YOU!!!

That enjoy herps very much, and some that want to go out to the woods and get dirty digging them up just like many guys do. In fact every now and then we get a few carloads of people to go herping with 2-4 of these people being females when we go. Most times they are not so intense in the physical searching but no less mentally intense in interest at herping. I think its great, keep up the interest.

of girls that I bring home get all scared because there lizards and
stuff and I dont know why I just think of them as hairless puppies haha

hi i work at the great valley serpentarium in lodi ca. half or more of the people that come in are girls. i know of about 4 girls that are breeding more reptile then iam right now they are all hatching over 100 snake eggs a year.but only one of them is in 2 monitors.

lol Im in West Palm Beach. I dont really know of any places to go herping. There are neighborhoods everywhere. There is some little island by the I-95 wall and it has hundreds of wild iguanas. I see wild iguanas a lot for some reason. They are always by the intercoastal.

i have had many girl friends, friends and even my parents afraid of reptiles. these are the people we need to educate and introduce to the reptiles. start by seeing if they will stand in the door way and look at the reptiles. then see if they will stand in the door way why you take one out but don’t go near them. more and more people are becoming interested in reptiles but herp lovers are still battling thousands of years of fear and hatred of dragons and snakes. look at dragons people relate lizards and crocodillians (especially large ones) to viscous mindless beast who will attack anything. people associate snakes with being slimy and poisonous. not to mention most popular religions show the snake as the ultimate evil. that’s why i think things likeLink are so important.

I know this is only for guyz but im currently in a similar situation. My parents are divorced and my mom loves my New BP but my dad dosent even answer me or comment me when i talked to him about getting one. He still dosent know i have one,(got it yesterday), but my mom told me to tell him that I can’t please everybody, if thats what you wanna do then prove to your mom how responsible and passionate you are about it! Hope this helps!
