How fast? Yes, you are underfeeding it. A monitor that size should be fed EVERY DAY AS MUCH AS IT WILL EAT. I would feed 2-3 dozen crickets just for one meal. He could easily eat 5 times the amount of food you are offering. Try as many crickets as it will eat 4 days a week and as many pinkies or fuzzies as it will eat the remaining 3 days(crix one day, mice the next, etc.) Your monitor will grow much faster and be much more healthy and active.

How fast? My sav was eating about 40 crickets a day and 3 pinkies a week at 6 1/2 inches. He’s now 16 1/2 inches(3 1/2 months later) and has been eating loads of either crickets, roaches or mice every day, and is not obese.

How fast? It also deoends on the temps, humidity, and set up. If you have a terrible set-up but feed properly your animal not flourish. What is your set-up like (temps, humidity, substrate, etc.)

How fast? Well you already have several problems. Get rid of that orchid bark and put dirt. GET RID OF THE SCREEN TOP...I dont know how many times ive heard this said in the last month..Unless you live in an area that stay at or around 50 plus percent humidity, ditch the screen top. As for the lighting, get 50 watt halogen floodlights. They are cheaper and work better. Do you offer a dish large enough for it to submerse its body completely in the water?
A common Nile monitor in the wild will grow approximately an inch a month on average. Ornates on average grow an inch and a half a month.

How fast? Ya ditch the screen top. You are cokking the lizard with a 100 watt light use 45-50 watt floods, i prefer halos too.

How fast? It may sound like a lot, but they need that much food to grow properly. Pet stores will tell you to feed them two or three times a week;one reason they may tell you that is because they know almost nothing about monitors, the other reason is because when the monitor gets malnourished or sick, people will ask for their(pet store’s)advice, and they’ll talk them into buying useless products from their store. I was referring to the total length(snout to tail tip). I used a 50 gallon breeder for my sav until he was about 13 inches. I used dirt as a substrate(diggable dirt that will hold moisture and a burrow), I completely covered the screen top with tinfoil except for where the light was on one end and a few small holes in the cool end, and I used one 45-watt halogen flood light bulb directly over the basking spot. 100-watt bulbs will overheat the enclosure and dehydrate your monitor.
