Yeah it is quite easy to train them to crap in their cage. You don’t even need a clicker (haha sorry raz had to say it).

Seriously if you want a potty trained huggable pet that doesnt need whole food items then do not buy a monitor.

Oh and forget about the hamster too I don’t recall them being potty trainable either.

nicely done jody.

i pody train by natural reflex put them in the tub with a warm shower rinse down and like clock work you get poop in your tub. scoop it out or rinse it down it all connects to the same sewer then wash your tub.
now our little guy heads into the bathroom when he is ready for that monitor wash down and a little relief.

Every one of my monitors has a spot they prefer..

Over any other place.
When its over 40f outside she will still go in the same spot like clockwork, but she will also attempt on occasion to trek down the street to crap in the same spot she used for 2 years straight in the old backyard.
In her cage she uses a spot right in the middle on a plywood piece, I guess because its easier for me to remove it, lol. My flavi-argus craps on the back center of the basking spot, it dries up fast then I scrape it up removing it. The ackies, and storrs monitor use their own personal spots, each of them and my beardie have built in waste disposal systems, lobster roaches, they make it disappear faster than you can go get a paper towell or a scoop to remove it.
Monitors seem to choose a spot they prefer to go.

 YES it can be done

as long as you routinely put your monitor in water like the last person said, they will get used to even holding it until you put them in water....well not all of them but i have seen it done, i am trying to train my nile right now and it seems to be working...

 YES it can be done

if its a nile it should have a water container large enough to soak in , in its enclosure anyway.
