 Update on cage and Salvadorii

Just snapped a few pictures yesterday. Cage construction for the Salvadorii is almost done. Each frame is insulated and boarded up already. Now I have to add the FRP, put the frames together, put a roof, door, and electrical work and Im done. The Savladorii is getting pretty big as well. Has gotten noticably larger since Ive gotten him. Well here are some pictures. Enjoy.
Here is one of the panels before I boarded it up.

A different panel that was almost finished.

Just giving you all an idea of what the cage is consisting of. Here are some pics of the Salvadorii.

 Update on cage and Salvadorii

Nice croc Adrian! I saw it in your other post, just haven’t taken the time to comment. Salvadoriis are beautiful monitors, just not for me, lol. I think my albig is about as far as I’m going. By the way, my guess on his sex was accurate; he’s definitely a boy(I saw him evert a few days ago). I had been noticing a "bulbous" snout starting to develop, as well as some good sized bulges at the tail base, but now I’m certain. He’s probably around 34 inches now(I measured him about three weeks ago and he was 31 inches and 2 1/2 pounds). He’s been averaging between 1 and 1 1/2 inches growth per week. How big is Chomp now? Don’t you still have one female bt also? Good luck with the croc, don’t let it take a chunk out of you, lol.

Thanks Cillie. He/she sure is a beautiful monitor. Much better in person. The camera flushes out a lot of his color. Very impressive animals.

Very cool about your albig! Thats great. He’s getting huge. Thats amazing to see how big hes gotten. I remember when he was so small. My male, Chomp, is about 10lbs now, and around 54-57 inches. Been a while since I’ve measured. My female, Kila, is 4lbs and close to the 4ft mark.

The croc actually has a decent temperment, suprisingly enough. I held it for the first time today, and its very curious. Just climbed all over me. Of course I got all the huffing and puffing inside the cage, but once he was out, he was cool. I only had him out for a couple minutes though, as I dont want to stress it out in any way. But anywho, thanks for the response. Good luck with you and your albigs.

P.S. How are those ackies doing? Havent heard from them in a while.

Take care

Adrian

lol, I don?t know about letting it crawl all over you adrain. Doesn?t take much for them to spaze out. Wait until you have your firtst bath day. I told hellbound chased me around didn?t I. It was funny. croc is looking good and looks alot bigger. what would you guess for svl.
Crocs do alot of huffing and puffing but most of the time it is a bluff. they do have days that they feel froggy though.

 Update on cage and Salvadorii

Adrian,

Beautiful V. salvadorii! When you are finished on the enclosure, you must post the pictures to give a true appeciation of how big an enclosure these monitors need. I see them often on the market here and I am tempted, but my hands are quite full as it is.

As for you question concerning seeing V. bengalensis on the market, there is little chance, since they have been CITES I for some time now and should continue to be with its diminishing numbers due to human predation. There is someone I know in England that received a V. benagalensis bengalensis from a zoo, which was mis-identified as a V. griseus koniecznyi. Other than a zoo or someone that has been breeding them, not too much of a chance.

Cheers,

Michael

 Update on cage and Salvadorii

Thank you Michael! I appreciate the kind words. The cage Im building him isnt his final cage though, as Its only 8ft long X 6ft wide X 6ft tall. His final cage, in term, will be 14x8x8. They are a wonderful species to work with. I couldnt be happier.

Thank you Dustin. He has gotten quite a bit larger. I couldnt really tell ya a SVL yet. I’ll try and get a more accurate measurement soon. But this guy wont be getting any baths. No need for it. The only reason I would do that, is so I could clean up its cage a bit so I dont get rushed at.

Thanks for answering my question Michael. Its cool you get to work with a species like that. Good luck witth them.

Adrian

 Update on cage and Salvadorii

The ackies are doing great. The only problem(may not be a problem) is that one of them has fallen WAY behind the other in size. When I got them they were almost exactly the same size, now one is almost 12 inches, the other is only 8-9, and the larger one is probably almost double the weight of the smaller. I’m not too worried yet, it could just be a growth spurt, or(if they are 1.1) maybe just faster growth in one sex or the other. They are both eating crickets like mad, and the smaller one goes berserk over pinkies(offered once a week). The larger one will take pinkies, but is much more hesitant than the small one. They get along great, bask together, sleep together sometimes, and I haven’t seen any aggressive dominance whatsoever. My fingers are crossed for a pair.

crocdoc: yes first bath day. crocs don?t care for baths right when you put them in it. I do it in order to its cage. Just like Adrain said, I don;t want a a croc trying to eat me while cleaning his enclosure. I just have someone watch him. Fun stuff.
Good luck Adrain. they are very intresting monitors

Wow you should really stop torturing your croc monitors. They are not fond of water. They really are not designed for it so it shouldn’t come as much of a suprise.

You could stick it in another cage, or a rubbermaid tub. Then you would be free to clean the cage without the monitor right there.

true Jody, he does wonder the bathroom once he really has enough of the tub. Doesn?t take much for him to jump out. Then my gf has to watch him.
