no not really.most places ship unless you can pick it up.they sell for 60 down here which i think is a big rip off.they even sell babies for 60 that are only about 4-5in.i think they sell adults for like 150 maybe more its insane.

savs are awsome but i dont think there worth more than 50 any where unless there an adult than i might pay up to 100-120 for one at the most.my local pet store only sells savs and niles thats it.they said they cant get in black throats or anything like that its gay they also said that they cant sell anything that gets over 6ft but they carry niles and boas and burms lol.

Rip off?? If I had it my way they would cost much more. The initial cost of purchase is nothing compared to the long term funding needed to support them. To many peopl out to save $$$ and buy one real cheap. Do you do the same with everything you purchase or just pets??

I think if you came down here and saw how they are treated hundreds in one small tank waiting to be sent out to dealers, then you may change your mind.

no i spend alot of money on my pets.its just that how they price them compared to online and for the fact that they dont even put a water bowl in there cage or anything to keep them healthy.they just care about the money so they just throw the animals in the cages and hope they can sell them.the sav i have right now i got from the pet store cause i could tell he was dehydrated and hasnt been feed very much he was all skinny and had loose skin every where.they had him in a 12inx12in cage and he was already 12in so he was all cramped up and didnt have any room in there.there was dried feces all over and he had one rock to hide under.thats the only reason why i think there priced way to much and they are WC like most savs but thats just my thoughts on pricing my sav has grown to 16in just in 1-2 months so i think im doing a good job.

Whether wc or not the price is way to low. That is the main problem and cause of their mistreatment. They are bought in huge numbers at a low low price. They are then sold to newbies. They do not bother to give any info. or take care of them because of the fact of the low price. They sell 1 and it pays for 3 or more. So if they loose a few it is ok they wont be out anything. If the price was higher then they would get better treatment and you would not see hundreds of them being tossed around like wind up toys. Your logic has many flaws in it.

are you saying that if the price of the animal being sold say by a pet store and by businesses online up the cost for the savs or are you saying if the exporters and stuff made the price higher it would be better im a little confused on that

when you guys see crap like that take pics and call animal cruelty.

do not just buy them with out doing or saying anything.

and evilsteve if the store is not allowed to sell something over 6 feet that means they can sell the babies but not the adults.

From begining to end.

Again to even think in terms of oh my how overpriced is that animal when your talking it is only at $60 anyways is insane. IMO you deserve a tail whack to think that way.

yes that is true if they had a higher price maybe everybody wouldnt want one and it would help to keep all of the savs and other lower priced reptiles in good healthy and not cramped into one little box all the time.i wish there were more cbb savannahs out there to keep the # of imports being sold and keep the WC savannahs were they belong in the wild.

If buyers would stop crying over prices then keepers might start producing more savs and the like. When you cry over a place selling a sav for say $60 instead of $25 or lower like the importers, what do you expect?

Haha nice post raze I was thinking the same myself. If I wasn’t moving I would offer to take the little mangrove and give it a good home. But i wont be adding anything until after my move. Although my reptiles seem to think otherwise. haha

i just want to find the little guy a home now when hes still small instead of waiting until a few weeks before i move and have to take his cage with me and everything.the only reason i have to get rid of him is cause i want be able to give him a adult size cage like he needs.he will need at a 8x4x4 but i was planing on giveing him a 8x6x6 so he has more room to climb and swim.im in the middle of giving my sav a 6x3x3 cause hes about to out grow his 4x2x2 cage.if you know any one please let me know i dont want to get rid of him but i think its best for the little guy.

nice additions jody. my female is about to lay. no room for a mate even if i wanted one. she is eating 3-4 rats every 3 days or 3 quail. with out a miss. i am certain she is going to start getting big.

evil steve savs can get 4 + feet and require at least a 4x8 what are you going to do then?

you didn’t really think this through did you?

no im just putting him in a 6x3x3 cage until he hits about 3ft or so than go with a 8x4x4 or maybe even bigger.i just dont have enough room for another 8x4x4 cage for the mangrove when it gets bigger is all thats why i want to get rid of him before i have to deal with that.

the point is that impulse buys from kids, especially are high with inexpensive monitors, beardies, uros, and iguanas...and a lot are not cared for properly and die. a higher price would "weed out" the impulse buyers and actually benefit the animals. sav’s are farmed out of the country...the parents are wild caught or eggs excavated from termitaria and then hatched by the 1,000s and imported. it’s just as bad as WC.

they should price savs up there with the black throat monitors maybe not quite as much but like around 80 or so to keep all the kinds and people who dont know anything about them away from them and maybe it will give the savannahs a better chance.i really dont see why more people dont breed them they are awsome monitors and dont get so big i guess its because they cant make any money off of them.if i had the space i would buy a adult pair and breed them but right now no space at all
