Feeding I am going to get a Nile monitor and I was wanting to know how often to feed him. The pet store said he is eating pinkies right now. Any help is appreciated.

Feeding Mrmonitor: do you know what you’re getting into w/ a Nile? they get really big, they are usually nasty. just an FYI. read some old posts, etc.

Feeding krusty is telling the truth. Their bite is painful. If you want a big lizard with a good personality (compared to a Nile) look into a Black Throat. I had both Savs and Niles and I did not like them because they were nasty tempered and now I have a Black Throat, which is a really great lizard, he his hissy pulling him out of his cage, once he is out, he is cool.

Feeding I got him (or her) today and he isn’t very mean. After holding him for a couple of seconds he doesn’t try to bite or anything. I was just wondering how often to feed him because I couldn’t find anything on how often to feed him, and I didn’t know how fast he could go through pinky mice. Thanks for all the help anyway.

Feeding If the nile is young then I would feed it a variety of insects(crickets, mealworms, wax worms just to name a few), pinkie mice, and if he can take a fuzzy or hopper would be better, as well as for variety raw ground turkey, hard boiled eggs, once in a while I will throw in a little bit of chicken dog food. I feed my monitor daily, usually 2 small rats (frozen) or 1 medium rat. I recommend feeding daily, however, keep an eye on the weight to make sure it does not get obese. I have ran in to 2 x since owning my black throat where he refused to eat, other then that, he eats like a pig.
