That is a young one. Sulfurs get more yellow as they age, razeraze.

Hi Raze,
I am not so sure that is a sulfur monitor = check on www.cybersalvator.com picture gallery and look at the younger ones of similar size = I think you have a common variety. JohnA over can tell you more about them than anyone - he knows more about them than anyone....
cheers,
markb

I bought it from Ben Siegel Reptiles in South Florida. I paid $750 for him, marked down from $1200.

He’s definately a sulfer as his coloration is VERY light yellow, not like regular waters.. the picture doesn’t do him justice.

I’ll get some new pics soon, he’s beautiful.

hi,
yes it is a sulfur. with age, most will lighten up, especially the head and tail. i have 1 male that has retained alot of dark on the head, while my females’ heads have no dark markings. good luck with it and post updates for us.

cheers,

-john

I certainly will.

So far he’s doing good after 1 week in my care. He’s eating 1 fuzzy or 4 pinkies per day but wont touch crickets too much yet. I feed him in a separate container so mabee he’s still just stressed out from that.

No bites from him yet but a couple of good scratches, I can’t wait to get a real cut from him! :) As long as they dont bite it doesn’t bother me.

thanks razeraze,

now for the drawbacks- space. they deserve acres. our miniscule cages offer little. food intake- they will eat more than you can keep up with. im sure i could watch 20 medium rats disappear between the 3 of them ( in a few minutes). cleanliness- salvators are among the filthiest. they will stink up your home, and continue to do so everyday for the rest of their lives. gotta keep up with water changes and spot cleaning.

then again they are damn smart, fun, beautiful, and worth it. cheers all- john a

Razorz...i have seen that monitor in person at an expo a few months ago. Ben Seigel had 2 of them. They seem to take very good care of their animals based on the expos over the last few years. I’m sure he’ll do well if you give him what he needs. They do "yellow up" with age like V. melinus as stated above by Bayawak. Congrats.

holy ..that one?? On hillsboro in deerfield? LOL!! I actually went there like 4 or 5 times...and i looked at him...he was so cute there..all by himself in that cage..looked a lil scared...he was 1100 or 1200 i believe they were selling him for..

they have some nice reptiles there...a croc monitor and some others...i prefer underground reptiles on powerline though as i find them alot friendlier..but they both have alot of reptiles

lol actually, the owner wasn’t even there *big surprise* and the employees really didn’t seem to know too much about reptiles. They did, but they didn’t, you know how that goes. You’d figure with selling an $1100 lizard they would at least have done alittle research on him so they sound knowledgeable.

I do like Underground better myself as well. Greg is a great guy and most of their reptiles are taken good care of, there are exceptions though. Ben Siegel’s looks like they do keep better care of their stuff, probably because they have less of it.

Yeah definately...i get a real nice vibe from greg too...really friendly, he has a really big water monitor too, 7 footer I believe. he told me he never once saw Ben Siegel over at that place in the 10 times or so he’s been there..figure that one out..lol. Siegel’s place is def taken care of...they kinda have to with having 20+ of the same reptile in one small 20 gallon tank. There must have had 100+ savvies last time i was there, and probably more. They had a 7 foot nile monitor there once on display in a pretty small, but long case...not dead though...it was definately alive..LOL...looken calm though.

Next time u go ask greg to show u a pic from his monitor book on the water monitor in there..there’s one in there that’s about 140lbs..looks like a juvi crocodile..

lol yeah Greg took me in the back to show me some pics of some of his past breedings. He has a whole warehouse setup as a "zoo" basically. He has his water monitor, some tegu’s and all his breeding projects. I told him he should charge admission. I’d love to go see it!
