 First shed

My growing guy is going through his first shed since I’ve had him. It appears to all have come off his head overnight and is hanging around his neck, and his tail looks loose as well. I was wondering about helping him along or soaking him to help or something. He also appears to be eating less the last couple of days and I want to make sure this is normal shedding. This is my first MHD shedding experience, any info will help. Will he grow fast afterwards? How long till he’s normal again? Will soaking helP?

soaking does help..alot! it loosens it and sofens. you might see him go into his water dish and start scraping it away. the shedding lasts for about 3-4 days.

Shedding for me can last for weeks untill the wole body is shed. Just make shure your humidity is high and you have a water dish. He will go in the water dish and rub the skin off there like luvu2 said. Sometimes they will stop eating as much when they shed. Just keep offering the food. I remeber when i had my lizard shed the first time. I could of swore it took way too long but its normal.

Hi!
If all the environmental conditions are being met adequately, and he isn’t acting ill, he just needs time to finish shedding. One of my females shed her entire bod, minus the head and tail, in about 2 days. This was about a month ago, she is only now shedding on her head and tail. Sometimes they just seem to stop shedding, then start up again. Why they do this, whether it is an environmental condition, or if it is just they way they do it, who can say yet. I have never actually had to soak a MHD to aid the shedding process, but that isn’t to say that you shouldn’t or that it is a bad thing to do. It really can help. If there are huge bits of dry skin hanging off of mine, I just gently rip them off leaving a little excess near the actual skin. I never pull it away from their bodies.

Thanks guys, he is eating still, and I have been soaking him more frequently by placing him in the water dish. His head and tail are done, but his body and legs are still shedding some big pieces. He ate crickets and a few red worms yesterday. I have postponed his move to the new reptarium until he finishes shedding.
