WORRIED HELP- NEED TO NOW SOON !
Ok i just got a mountain horned dragon for christmas : ) But all of these posts i am reading is getting me worried i dont really have the money for shots and vets but he or she ( how do i tell hemipenile bulge ?) seems to be active and sort of happy it ate like 16 crickets yesterday and probably has taken a drink i mist her and sprayed the leaves and wall and i asssume she has been saoking becuase i have seen fecies in her pool/thing. What is sort of worrying me is that every time i got to toch or pick her up she opens her mouth and hisses ! and i really dont want her to stress or die ! but maybe she is getting used to me, she is store bought , maybe she is pregnant or gravid if it is a female iv provided a drinking dish a small pool (working on getting pump) a hide space and lots of things to climb and trying to fing coconut bedding for him or her to make a nest. sHE LET ME TAKE HER OUT ONCE YESTERDAY AND THEN INSTANTLY RAN TO MY HEAD ! ( i know this is normal but when i try tried to take her off she bit me : ( she is on the ground and and in trees like hydrted and active , and sleeps well and her poop looks normal. should i really be taking her to the vet ? she might be non wild cauggth? is she pregnant? why is she/him so moody? why does id not want me to touch it? Also my mother who bought it for me says she held in in reptile wranglers ( in Barrie On.) and said that he/she didnt hiss or bite and just chilled PLEASE HELP ME OUT A.S.A.P. plus i leave the light/u.v.b light on all day and then just the .u.v.b light on at night wil this cuase problems i am trying to get heat things and timers !!!! im worried !

WORRIED HELP- NEED TO NOW SOON ! Well take her to the vet if you can. If you cant, she doesnt sound that bad to me. Sounds like she is eating well. Try giving her nightcrawlers. They love them. All lizards are different just like people and yours could just have a temper. If you keep trying to hold her everyday then she probably will get used to you. It doesnt want you to touch it probably because she is scared. Just calm down your way better off than a lot of keepers who dont research the lizard before they buy it. There are probably mhds in 10 gallons out there. So your doing the right thing. Wow this forum like exploded lol

WORRIED HELP- NEED TO NOW SOON ! Do you know if it’s a capra, armata, or coronata? Can you post a picture? The capra are generaly calmer but any of them can develope an attitude. The fact that it’s active, eating and pooing is a very good sign. It’s possible that the store has already wormed it. Hydration is very important but it seems he’s visiting the water bowl. Do you mist? Give it time to settle in. Keep handleing short for now and work up to more. This should help keep the stress down.

WORRIED HELP- NEED TO NOW SOON ! and do not leave the uvb or any bright type of day light on all night. They do need a light/dark cycle to regulate everything, 10-12 hours during the day is plenty! If she ate 16 crickets and pooped in her water, she sounds healthy to me! Like chad said, offer some nightcrawlers if you can, 1-2 nightcrawlers instead of 16 crickets one or two days a week is a little easier and less $ for ya! and nihtcrawlers are realy good for them, they usually love them...if she was wild caught, you may have issues in the future with him/her needing to be dewormed by a vet, but you can cross that bridge if you come to it. Right now it sounds like shes feeling very good, the feistiness is much better than lethargy! so I wouldn’t worry about vet costs for the time being!

WORRIED HELP- NEED TO NOW SOON ! I bought my pump at a pet store in the fish section. Mine cost about $25 but i bought the best pump they had and its noiseless. What size is your mhd. If he is 9 inches than night crawlers but if he is smaller than earthworms might be better. I have a smaller mhd and i feed him mini crawlers.

WORRIED HELP- NEED TO NOW SOON ! Hi there Brawk!
You left a post on my youtube video of my older female, Snafu. I’m not the computer much but it appears you’ve found your way to the right place to get info and advice despite my inattention to my online life...
My online involvement with herpetology consists mostly of lurking but if you’re in the GTA i’m liable to see you at the reptile expos (although I mostly hang out around the inverts ;))
Sounds like you’re dragon is pretty healthy and normal and you shouldn’t worry too much, sometimes they just get moody and it can be caused by any number of contributing factors. As long as she’s eating, pooping, and hydrated I’d consider it a very successful first week. She’s likely to be stressed from being in the petstore, moving, xmas, etc. Give her some time to adjust and I think she’ll be just fine :)
Cheers,
Diz
