 WHAT CAN I DO?

I got my MHD from a reptile convention this past sunday and since I got him he has only eaten two mealworms and has not drank any water at all, he has also been on a branch and refuses to get off and grips extra tight when I try to take him of or get him out of his cage, there’s no hissing but i’m worried because he’s not eating and does not want to be moved. Can I do anything about this or should I just let him be?

 WHAT CAN I DO?

I would not be too worried. I asked the same question of others on the web site when we got ours and their responses were very accurate. He didn’t eat a thing for the 1st 4 days. Then I held one end of a night crawler and let the other crawl on his log in front of him and he ate it. He will now eat about 1 every other day and will take them straight off the log and out of my hand. I dont feed him meal worms any more since he takes the night crawlers so well! We let him be for a few days just be get used to his new enclosure. They are very lazy and typically just site around. As far as water, is it moving? it is very true that they will no go near it unless it has the bubbles or is a water fall. Every five or so days I actually put him in the water and when i come back about 15 minutes later he is drinking, not really necessary I know but makes me feel better to see him drinking. Watch for poop in the water, that is how I can tell he is going there on his own! I also mist the cage a much as four times per day and get him a little too. All the web pages say that they get most of their water by absorbing it. This helps the humidity to stay up. I am no expert, just know what eveyone on hear told me and went onto the web to look up facts about them and it is all very very true.

Just let him be to get used to his new surroundings. Give him a couple of weeks before you try to pick him up.

Put food in there every day until you see that he’s eating. Try crickets as well, and be sure you’re dusting the food with calcium.
