So most dragons I buy are sick?

I am just wondering, I have seen some at petsmart in canada ontario, and they are fairly small, so I am assuming they are young, but there is a sign right beside them stating that they will be in the best of health and are treated for any parasites and what not. Is that just a lie, or should I feel save when buying my dragon?

That’s a tuff call. I have to think each store is different. Depends on who is keeping the reptile department. I got my first pair at a Petsmart in Detroit and one died within a month. After several vet visits. Both of them were full of parasites. If they are small they are probably young. Perhaps there is a breeder around or they may have hatched some eggs themselves. Wouldn’t hurt to ask.

How small is small? Snout to vent that is.

thank you for your response, and they are I think around 5-6 inches give or take... I might actually be considering Geckos, they live like 15 years and longest was 29 years, good choice or are the dragons more interactive or just all around better pets?

I have cresteds geckos also and find them to be a bit less handleable. They make a nice pet though. You can feed them the Repashy diet and not have to deal with bugs and worms. Geckos are nice but mountain horned will always be my first love. Just always do the homework first. Less likely to have problems that way.

Hey there :)

Petstores in Ontario do not legally have access to the necessary deworming medication to safely deworm a reptile. Nor do the employees typically have the expertise necessary to administer the treatment. I wouldn’t risk getting an MHD from a petstore unless you’re willing to accept all the risk associated with taking in a wild caught animal.

If you can wait, captive bred babies are going to be available within the next few months (hatching season is almost upon us!)
