 Dangling throat pouch

This morning my new (we’ve had him one week today" MHD has a droopy throat pouch. It’s not puffed up, just hangin there.

Could he have been overfed? Yesterday he was eating like a pig.

He seems ok otherwise, sitting on his branch giving me "the eye".

He’s a young guy. How much should I be feeding him?

You can see a pic in the "Pic of my new MHD" thread.

I had a post awhile back with a picture of mine having something similar maybe? Every now and then one of mine gets a sort of bubble like thing in the throat pouch, it looks really loose and droopy, not puffed up, but almost like there’s some air trapped in the skin...if your has the same thing as mine get, they usually have it after a big meal, like they ate too fast and got some air caught is what I assume it is, and it goes away after a day, sometimes two...I think mine have all had it at some point, it seems somewhat normal and nothing to be worried about, if it’s in fact the same thing. Try to go back and find the post and pic?

Okay the post is from 5/22/07 and titled "questions and lots of pictures" and the first two pictures are of the throat thing. Evan had thought maybe it was just a worm comin back up/having trouble going down, although I usually didn’t see it happen until the next day...

They pretty much quit eating when they are full. They can try and take a worm that is to big and have trouble getting it down. Does it look kind of like a turkey neck? I think it’s not just fully puffed ( or not fully retracted after puffing it up). How’s that for a technical explanation?

Yep, it was definitely a turkey neck:) He had pigged out the night before. It went away by the end of the day.

I’ve never had a dragon before, so anything unusual will probably elicit a frantic post.

Right now he seems to have taken a dislike to earthworms, though he liked them a few days ago, but he’ll eat other critters so I’ll let him decide.

My biggest problem right now is how to stop the *^%%& crickets from escaping when I try to get them from their holder, to the bag where I shake them in calcium. I’m afraid their going to band together and start a revolution.

I can not tell you the frantic posts and emails to Marcia when I got my first dragon. It was gravid so I went into hatching right away. Then more frantic posts when they hatched. We’re all here to help each other so ask away.

They do seem to change their diet at will. I have a male that eats earthworms only. Occasionally I can get him to take a roach or hornworm. He’s alive and healthy but I do worry about that.

I have this funnel like thing with a tube attached. It came with the cricket bin we used when we had the store (for counting them). I knock them off the egg crate into the funnel. Then sprinkle calcium, put my hand over the top and shake. They pour right out. Of course I still get escapees now and then.
