 Do MHD’s shed?

The joker has a strange line, it almost looks like someone took a ruler and drew a line around him at just about shoulder level. The skin above the line is a lighter color than below. Otherwise, skin and everything look exactly the same.

Any thoughts?

BTW I think I’ve spoiled him. He’ll only eat earthworms and mealworms out of my hand now, and the crickets can get away from him. I walked in the other day and one was sitting on his head. Now I’m afraid to just put the food in his home, for fear he won’t eat.

I have new dragon-mother anxiety:)

 Do MHD’s shed?

Hello. Yes, they shed, and that sounds like a normal shed he’s about to have. As long as the humidity gets high enough and they are healthy, they don’t tend to have many problems with it. You may occassionally have to soak them to help the skin soften up if they are having trouble, but it does take a few days, and they tend to shed it in sections!
Geckos and anoles shed their skin within a day and tend to eat it, so often you never even know they’ve shed, but MHD’s are a bit odd. I have one right now who has just shed the skin on her chin and throat for the last two days, and looks like she’s about to start shedding her head and neck, then it will go to her body...
I hand feed all of mine too! They’ll hunt down crickets, so they aren’t too lazy I figure, but I always hand feed worms! Just be careful and make sure there aren’t too many crickets left in the cage uneaten, try to provide the crickets something to eat on if they are on the cage more than a day, like a piece of carrot or apple or even some fish flakes or cricket food. It’s okay to have one or two crickets in there for him to eat and chase whenever he feels like it though!
You’ve asked lots of good questions though, and I’m glad he’s doing so well!
