Have 8 hatchlings, more may come...

hi, i discovered mhd’s at the local pet store in january. the female was gravid (i do have a breeding pair) and laid 14 eggs. have incubated them and 8 healthy hatchlings have emerged! 6 to go, but will see how long they last, i know the mortality rates are not high, but i’m confident many/all will do well. haven’t decided if i will sell back to the pet store or to individuals.... if anyone is interested, i’ll keep you in mind in several months.

Once they are eating you have a great chance for them to live. Besides little crickets I have used these. They are very active and help encourage feeding. Also have had great luck with very small hornworms from Greatlakes Hornworm. The MHD pics and videos on his site are my little dragons. Rob is a local guy that sells to many large distributers. His worms feed on a grain base food rather than the mulberry base food. Either is good but the grain base doesn’t smell as bad as the other. Downside is that they are expensive. I’ve also used silks. Of course hydration is important so mist often. When young they seem to drink more from leaves than the waterbowl.

Always happy to see more captive breeding. I got started by buying a gravid dragon as well.

Bonnie

The minimealworm didn’t work. Try this. These are good too. Phoenix worms

I want one! I have been researching mhd and I want to get at least one. I am very experienced with animals-I have been keeping, breeding, and raising animals for the past 20+ years. I was going to get one at my local pet store but they are all fully grown and I would seriously like to get a baby. Please keep me in mind-I will pay for next day shipping as well.
Thank you,
Angel

I’d be interested in one but I’m in Canada so there’s ALOT of paperwork lol. Oh well :( guess I’m gonna have to keep rescuing them here until I have a male old enough to breed with my female and have babies of my own.

I just read the above rules... I think I’m not supposed to sell? IT also says I’m not supposed to put in my email or cell #. How should we proceed? I have no problem giving you my email, but don’t want to get banned. Let me know if I’m reading this wrong, or if you have another way to communicate :-)

My babies are so cute. They are very active, thriving, eating and drinking well. I have a large shallow dish with a stone aerator for water movement, they have small crickets at their disposal, the LOVE mealworms, wax worms, earthworms. I handle them every day. Some of the little boogers are hard to get off of me when I’m ready to put them back, without hurting them! I do mist them 2-4 times a day, and they do love to drink from the leaves. I haven’t decided which one or two to keep yet........

HI, yes i have 10 babies that are active and thriving! SO SO SO CUTE!!!!!!!!! there are only two that are a little on the skinny side, that i haven’t seen eat,but they still seem active enough, i have seen them drink. i do mist them several times a day, have a large shallow water dish with an areator in there for movement. i plan to sell all but 1 or 2, the pet store owner was interested in buying them from me, as well as a couple in the forum. i do have small crickets for them, and i find little baby earthworms, but i would love to get some mini meal worms, that don’t crawl away too fast. the link in your response was no longer valid, do you know where i can order some? i’ll poke around a little more on the website, too.
i think my female may have some more eggs in her. i need to palpate her. do you think i should continue to captive breed? i do have a breeding pair, but wouldn’t want to perpetuate the species unless there was the demand, and DEFINITELY want to cut down on the wild caught market. tell me what you think, thanks!

This link should work. minis It works when I tried it.

You can always see if local pet shops will buy them. I sell most of mine there. Don’t expect to much money though. I don’t sell mine till they are 4 to 6 months old depending on who is buying.
