What does a healthy tail look like??? I noticed that my new MHDs tail doesn’t look like other MHDs tails. It’s much darker and duller than the rest of his body. Also, it’s so thin. It’s really hard and has a few small kinks in it. I’ve looked for marks where maybe he had gotten it stuck in something but there isn’t anything obvious. He doesn’t get upset when I touch it so it’s probably not sore. Have any of you ever had experience with this? Does anyone have any ideas?

One kink is at the secondblack band from his body. The other is about 3/4 an inch from the tip. They aren’t too obvious in this picture. I can take a better one if needed.
Ps. I know I’ve asked a lot of question but only a few days after we purchased him our vet went out of town for a conference.

What does a healthy tail look like??? The pic isn’t adequate, but kinks in the tail are caused by mbd - metabolic bone disease. This is caused by a lack of calcium being absorbed. So, either you don’t have adequqte uvb lighting, or not enough calcium in the diet. Are you doing the supplement powder on the food items?

What does a healthy tail look like??? I’ve only had him two weeks or so now. His tail has fattened up a bit since. The only thing he’s eaten so far are mealworms, he hasn’t shown any interest for anything else we’ve tried. I do dust the mealworms with some reptile dust and I know it has calcium but I’m not sure what brand it is since I’m not home right now. When I get home I’ll take a better picture and find out what kind of powder I’m using. I don’t have any UVB since the guy at the pet store said it all gets filtered out through the leaves in their natural habitat so they don’t need one. But if that is what that problem is then what kind of bulb should I get and how many hours/day should it be left on etc. Thank you so much for the advice and I look forward to your responce.

What does a healthy tail look like??? Some ppl do believe that they don’t need uvb, but they do, in order to process d3 to absorb the calcium. I have a 100watt Mercury Vapor bulb, but you can also go with a tube 5.0 reptisun. Don’t get the coil bulbs, they have been known to cause eye problems.
