 Hi Everyone...New MHD Owner

Hello... My name is Annie, I’m new to the MHD forum but not to RZ...I’m usually on the water dragon or the iggy forum because I have WD’s & Iggys.....Well I have acquired 2 MHD’s...I’ve tried to do as much research as I can but there’s not too much out there on MHD’s..I did find froggieb’s site a long time ago and had it saved in my favorites folder..

Well I was wondering if someone here could help me sex and maybe guesstimate their age.....I don’t have names for them yet..I wanted to try and sex them first....These little guys are hard to sex or maybe they are to young yet.....I’m pretty good with iggys and wd’s but not these guys...LOL..

OK here’s # 1
SVL is 3 1/4" & STL is 8"

Here’s #2

Here’s the two of them together..#2 is on top

I can see a difference in the two but I’m just not sure which is which...LOL...I’m thinking #1 male and #2 female but I could be way off base...LOL..Why can they have pores like igs & wd’s so much easier....
Any advice would be great.....

Thanks....
Annie.....>^..^<

 Hi Everyone...New MHD Owner

They are so pretty!!!!!
I know less then you so I will not be any help. I was thinking #1 male and #2 female as well.
I did want to ask this though. I read some place that males are green and females are brown. Does that only happen when they get older?

 Hi Everyone...New MHD Owner

It looks to me as a boy and then a girl. In addition to answer the other question thrown on this thread both males and females should be green. They both can be brown if they are stressed or if they are not getting proper care. Some females are a little duller in their hue of green but we have had one female that never has dulled like the other girls we have. It boils down to the MHD is very condition touchy so if all their conditions are appropriate and the animal healthy it will not matter what sex the animal is both are green with shades of other colors mixed in. And before anyone asks we have been caring for MHD for over 7 years.

 Hi Everyone...New MHD Owner

Thanks Everyone...Now alls I need to do is think of names for them....LOL...I’m going to be getting another MHD from my friend Clouddancer22 (she breeds Chinese Water Dragons) and she has a Lepidogaster, I’m pretty sure it’s a female.....

I do have a question??? Can you tell me about how old they are?.. I’m sure they are young...I can’t find a growth chart anywhere...grrrrrr...I posted their measurements with their pictures...I like to keep track of their growth and weight as I do for all my lizards....

And Thanks again.......Annie......>^..^<

 Hi Everyone...New MHD Owner

At the size given best estimation is around 2years. this is from personal experience over the years not a chart. I am going from the measurements and pictures. A younger dragon in my opinion has a baby face and around two I noticed is when the extreme cuteness leaves and is replaced by the adult look. I am sure someone will probably disagree that is why I say in my opinion. I do not know anyone with a chart for size reference we just go off the type they are lepidigastor, crucegeria, acanthosaura (there is another type can’t remember at the moment ) and our experiences over time. Please forgive misspelling of MHD types I have never been the best with that.

 Hi Everyone...New MHD Owner

Thank you for answering my question. I just thought that would be good to know when I go to purchase my MHD’s.

 Hi Everyone...New MHD Owner

Thanks Bobbi,

Hey don’t worry about the spelling..gosh I’d be lost without the spell check..LOL...

So you think about 2....They are both acclimating and eat very well...I’m deworming both right now just to be on the safe side..most likely they are wild caught....

 Hi Everyone...New MHD Owner

If they were acquired from a pet store you are pretty much guaranteed that an MHD is wild caught. No one we have encountered has had enough breeding success to supply pet stores. yes FroggieB, DamnitBonnie, and Doug Dix have breeding pairs and sell the babes but the demand is way to high seeing that pet stores are bad at caring for this particular type of reptile. So if all they have is worms feel good because I took one in from a pet store with a broken jaw another was blinded so worms are a quick fix as long as dosage is not to high. These are my favorite type of reptile so I will take one in no matter the condition they are in, once they work their magic you are hooked.Best of luck.
