Some questions
The pet store I deal with got one in, in a recent shipment with other herps. They really didnt know anything about it, and customers kept thinking it was dead. I immediately explained that he was dehydrated, needed more humidity, some limbs to climb on and a bubbling stone in the water. I got them to soak him last night as well. I thought my little girl was skinny, this ones legs are way skinnier. I normally refuse to "rescue pet store creatures" but this guy is likely not going to make it. Id love to take him in, worm him, hydrate him ect. and keep him. How bad of an idea is it? The manager was having trouble finding info, as he came in listed a mountain horn lizard. I referred her to froggie Bs site. If I did take him and he recovered, how long would/should I quarantine? Or should I ever even put him with my girl? What are the risks(after wormed and quarantined o f course?) |

If the manager actually cares and is willing to do the research and take care of him properly, that would make me not nearly as worried, and one can only hope that she would send care info along with whomever might purchase him. I think if the pet store cares enough about it, and cares for it, the very good thing will be that they know about MHD’s and what to do for them the next time they may get one in! But otherwise, I think it is worth it to "rescue" one in bad conditions, because their care requirements are so specific, but not terribly hard or expensive usually other than a vet visit, and so few people know what the specifics are or have experience with them, and much of the time it is just a matter of giving them that proper care which saves them. deri |

I went back on Friday and saw they had changed things exactly like I said, he was alert and looking around, looked awesome (besides skinny legs) and had turned from black to a rust color. I checked back on Sunday, he looked even better and was marked sold, but at stores request they were keeping him 1 more week first and had given new owner Froggiebs site (my idea). Also, the owner, who Ive talked to often, told the manager they can always take my offered advice when I notice something is off. |
