Does my MHD need heat lamp?

I have a MHD that is about 2 weeks old. I live near the beach in SC. The temps where the MHD stays is 72 to 75 degrees. I use the UVB bulb 12 hours/day. The light is a combo with a heat lamp also. Do I need to use it daily and if so, how many hours? Also, I have tried giving him/her the night crawlers, but it likes dusted crickets. It may eat 1/4th of an worm, so I usually give crickets. Is the poop white???

Are you sure it is that young???
The white part of the poo is actually the "pee", technically called urates. Sometimes they will just "pee"/ it will just be the white part, but most of the time you will actually see the brownish um, well, turd with it!
If it is that young and tiny, it is good if it will eat a bit of nightcrawler, but make sure it is small pieces, and crickets are just fine as most of it’s diet.
You ideally want the temp to be around 78/80 for a warm spot, the room temp is fine for the rest of the cage/cool spot, just make sure the temps do not go over 84/85 degrees! And keep the humidity very high by frequent misting, especially if your dragon is that young. The white/pee indicated that it is well hydrated though I would say!

Thanks for the info all. I don’t know how old he/she is as I got her from a pet store. I have had it for 2 weeks. I have cut a nightcrawler into 4 pieces and yesterday it ate none. Later in the day it ate at least 5 crickets. I am misting at least 2 x’s/day.

I am not sure of the age, I got it about 2 weeks ago from a pet store. It doesn’t like the nightcrawlers (cut up) but will eat close to 10 crickets (dusted with calcium) per day. I am misting 2 x’s/day or more.
Thanks for all of the advice.

Oh kewl, I misunderstood and thought it was 2 weeks old! That’s good that it eats that many crickets, I have had a few that took quite awhile to show any interest in and eat nightcrawlers. Just try again every now and then! Let us know if you have any other questions!

I do have another question. Right now he’s in a 10 gal aquarium with a screen on top. I want to get the bigger reptile terrarium eventually. Can I put aluminum foil or something over part of the screen so that it’s more humid inside?

Yes I have a piece of cardboard over a part of some of my frog terrariums for that reason. Even just a towel or something like that would work. I might be afraid of like, reflections or the shininess from the aluminum foil bothering your dragon, but that might be silly...?!
You definatley want to keep the humidity in, just monitor the temps to make sure you aren’t keeping to much heat in as well and making it too warm.
And it would definitely be good to get a bigger cage, whenever you can, they love to climb and be up high.

Again, thank you for your advice. I am only using the lamp a couple of hours here and there so it shouldn’t get too hot. I’ll cover the top, leaving a section of the screen uncovered.
