Okay, I just screwed up and posted my intro post under basic info because I didn’t get much sleep last night. My apologies and maybe the moderator can remove my post from that thread? Anyway, I usually post in the iguana and water dragon pages, but I just adopted a little MHD. My friend had rescued her from the US Global Exotics seizure in January, but she wasn’t getting any healthier so I decided to try and help her. We don’t know what kind she is. She is a tiny little thing, definitely not more than 8 inches. She has grown marginally since my friend got her, shedding only once in that time. She came to my friend with severe MBD and hasn’t been getting any better. Between the MBD and the fact that she is missing a leg, she doesn’t get around very well so I only have her in a 20 gallon tank. Yes, I know she needs to be in a bigger tank and my friend had her in a bigger tank. However, she was constantly getting sick in the big tank, but she seems to be doing better in the smaller tank. She has improved greatly in the week she’s been here, with the humidity higher and a mild UV light on her part of the day to hopefully help with the MBD. She also has moving water, of course. Because she has a trouble getting around, we need to pick her up every couple of days and put her in a small plastic container to feed her or she can’t catch the crickets. I plan to feed her much the same as I do my Water Dragon. Right now she’ll only eat two crickets or two mealworms at a time. I dusted the insects with calcium and with a little Benebac to replenish any gut flora she might have from stress. My daughter and her friends named her Wench because of the missing foot. She’s not the prettiest MHD I’ve ever seen and she most certainly is the smallest adult. I haven’t measured her but I’m guessing her to be about 8 inches and she’s quite thin, despite my friends attempts to get her to eat more. She was very very dark when she first came to me and she was dehydrated because my friend was having problems keeping the humidity up during the day since she is not at home and I am. This is the main reason she asked me to take her. She looks much better now. If she continues to improve, I’ll move her in my Water Dragon’s enclosure in a few weeks, once I move the Water Dragon into her new enclosure and we’ll see how she does. I’m trying to plan ways for her to get around easier with her limited mobility and would love ideas for that.

Where can I find that larvae? I’d really like to help her put on some weight! She ate five crickets yesterday! That’s the most she has ever eaten at one time! Yay! |
