Tiny white mites Today I just noticed little white mites barley visible to the naked eye and they jump almost an inch, what are they and how do i get rid of them, can I cook my substrate in the oven, because I just bought some jungle floor, and that stuff is not cheap.

Tiny white mites bake your substrate in the oven at 350 for half an hour. You also have to use a diluted bleach solution on the tank (rinse very well) or they will just come back. Jungle earth is the only substrate i’ve ever had this problem with. Also bake any new substrate before putting in tank.

Tiny white mites What reptile lives in that enclosure? Do you by any chance feed that animal crickets?

Tiny white mites Ok, so baby crickets are eliminated. When I used to use Repti-Bark for my corn snakes, I would get tiny white mites as well. But they didnt jump (I dont think so atleast). Is it Zoomed Repti-Bark that you use?

Tiny white mites i forget the brand name... its rather expensive though, yeah, not baby crickets but perhaps not mites? i dunno, but i cleaned the enclosure and am keeping a close eye on the other snake.... weird problem but easy fix... i have had snakes with mites before so i have mite spray and know how to treat the problem but these guys are interesting... thanks for your concern.. if you think of anything, im all ears...
thanks adam

Tiny white mites i had this problem 2-3 weeks ago, if they are in one tank they will probably be in all of your tanks, chuck away the bedding and bleach all of the tanks, water bowls, food bowls, cage decorations everything. Get some frontline for fleas and ticks for dogs from your vets. absolutely cover them in frontline (rub into every scale, includes eyes) then put them in a well ventilated bucket for 30 mins. cover all of the bleached tanks in the frontline (it is the vapour that kills the mites) be sure to keep it well ventilated. Repeat this twice!! (7-9 days after the first treatment) Boas have been known to die from this treatment but it is very effective, hope this helps.
btw i did this on all of my snakes (includes boas) and everything is back to normal no mites!

Tiny white mites i found the easy way to kill off mites of any kind,i know cause my girlfriends burmese python had them for 3 months we did everything we even took her to the vet and that didnt even help finally i did research on snake mites and found out the mites die without a snake so i took the snake soaked it for 4 hrs. and then put her in a clean tupperware container with holes then i put the now mite free snake in a diffrent room and spray the tank with the mite killer stuff from petsmart let the mites in the tank starve for 3 days then wash out tank with hose ur better off throwing out the substrate. two more of my snakes have gotten mites and since ive used this method they were gone 2 days later the least u can do is try it out once sorry its so long bye

Tiny white mites ive had black mites also brown ones in my boas cage i left all the substrate in but took every thing else out. i used provent a mite according to the instructions. pretty much spray mix and wait. a few hours later i put everything back in and bye bye mites.
i currently have a problem in my monitor cage. looks like white fleas. larger than mites. dont seem to be biting the lizard but he does seem annoyed by them. iv used provent a mite they come back. ive change substrate they come back. i m lost i dont know what to do. i posted on the monitor forum and i usually get pretty good answers there.
