They contain Oxalates, which are microscopic crystals shaped like needles that can cause mouth, throat and stomach irriation if consumed. The oxalates can also cause a skin reaction. Some worry about them, and philedendron/pothos in a frogs tank because frogs like to nestle themselves on the leaves. If the leaf brakes and sap gets to the frog there theoretically may be problems. I myself have never heard personally of it. In my toads tank the branches are taken off far above his reach. Arrowhead vine(philedendron) also contains oxalates, as do pothos. Here’s one of my favorite toxicity sites for plants. Its aimed at birds but does just as well for other pets as well. toxic plants
