Is he just really scared when you try to hold him? Spicer (my lizard) is still alittle scared, but hes getting a lot better. Just gotta work with them.

ok this is my problem...I slide top of cage to oppiste way he is facing...i go and stick my had infront of face to let him lick me and no who i am ...pet him a little then as i go to slowly grab him he then bolts to oppisite side i grab him and starts to breath heavily..and sometimes hisses??? Should i just open it and just try to grab him with some pressure??? And 1 final note i don’t even know if it is a boy...i just guessed...cause i don’t know how to find out?? Please any and all feedback will be GREATLTY APPREICIATED!!!

Well, since Spicer is still scared when I pick him up he usually moves his tail in every direction and just kinda freaks out I guess. When I pick him up though, I dont let go. I have one hand under his chest area and I have a good grip. I mean im not squeezing him so hes gonna pop but so much that he cant get away. My other hand I use to hold his tail. Im afraid hell hurt himself if I dont hold onto it. Plus, it keeps him from moving much and he calms down pretty quickly. Then, after that little fuss of his he does just fine with me holding him. If I hold him for a long time he does start to get a bit irritated and may start that kinda stuff again. So, for you I think you should just try to pick him up and try not to let go. (if he does the tail thing just hold it too..makes things a lot easier) Although, you said that he starts breathing hard. If you feel he gets too stressed you should put him back in his tank.

As for determining the sex. Im not sure how to do that exactly. Someone told me that males have little spike-like things on the inside of their back legs. Im assuming thats true because Spicer has something like that on his back legs.
