 Just Got a Plated Lizard

Hello,
I am new to this message board. I just got a plated today. I believe the one I got is called a yellow-throated plated. He’s got 2 stripes that go down from his head to tail and is grey everywere else. He is pretty big, i measured 17 inches long and 1 inch across. Not big and chunky like the pictures i have seen on here. They didn’t know how old he is which is my first question. He looks very "baby" like, very slender and hasn’t got much width. Anybodys best guess? I also wanted to ask how I can find out the gender. And when do they reach their full length/width?
The pet shop told me he doesn’t need a basking lamp but only a uvb lamp and heating pad. But I have heard elsewere they need a basking lamp and uva lights. Thats all my questions for now, but I will definatly have more later! thanks

Sexing plated Lizards is easy as 123. Males have spurs on their back legs which kind of look like teeth on a comb, bot male and females have these BUT a breeding aged males are a lot longer. As for lighting, Plateds NEED Full spectrum UVB lighting AND a basking spot light as well as under tank heat pad that covers 1/3rd of the viv.

I swear some of these pet shop owners know nothing about lizards.
