Question on Yellow striped plated Lizard

Quick question.... We just got our very first reptile. My wife and I are very excited. We’ve noticed he is shedding slightly. Nothing major. Just see his flakes lying around. Again, not a ton, but wanted to know if this is to be expected. And if so, how often should I expect him to do this? He’s a little shy for now, but I think that’s b/c he’s adjusting to his new home. We fed him some superworms and put out some fruit and veggies. We hand-fed him the worms but he didn’t go for the veggies and fruit. Also, how often do you feed these guys? We’re told about 3-4 times a week. Ours is about 12inches long... His name is Moe :)

I will attach a pic when i figure out how :)

Thanks,
Tommy

Question on Yellow striped plated Lizard

You called our 12 in a juvenile but the pet store said he was an so i was feeding him every other day but if he is a juvenile i was told to feed him twice a day......what do I do? also i am a little concerned b/c for the past 2 feedings he ate superworms but is not interested in the green lettuce, veggies, or fruit. Is this normal? Aren’t they supposed to have half their diet consist of greens and non-alive bugs? Help!

Question on Yellow striped plated Lizard

these lizards unlike many lizards do not need to eat a whole bunch of food if they are juevniles. just feed a good amount every other day and he will be fine. i have the same species of plated lizard and mine have never to this day seem to like veggies and the other species of plated lizards seem to have more interest. also superworms are very filling so maybe cut back some on those and try the greens. lastly plated lizards seem (from what ive notice) liked to be paired up.( dont worry about eggs these are hard to breed just by accident , it has to be perfect for them to breed, well at least thats what ive been told) so when he is full grown try and get a girl . trust me u can tell the difference once u have had one or the other..........also try and post a picture and i could tell you if he/she is a boy or a girl.

Question on Yellow striped plated Lizard

thanks - that is helpful. I have another question - i noticed today that his dropping was runny and had a white blob in it. I was checking my care sheet and it said that this may be a sign he is sick? He also is very still and closes his eyes every few seconds when I am around - is this normal b/c he is getting used to me? Is this a sign of being lethargic? Is this grounds to call the vet or should i wait for the next dropping? Again - i have only had him 4 days and all he’s eaten is superworms.....sorry for all the questions but i am new at this and want him to be okay.

Question on Yellow striped plated Lizard

i just bought my yellow lined plated lizard at a petsmart a week ago. I was told he HAD mites and was treated twice for them. He had a gray one on his tail. Is he still safe to keep or should i return him? i looked on line and it said to prevent mites is to never get them in the first place and I am pretty freaked out at how difficult it is to get rid if them. I cant stand the idea of them being in my house!! I have checked him all week and i didn’t see any more......what should i do?
