 Why are they considered messy?

I’m thinking about getting one. I currently have two ball pythons, and well as everyone knows snakes are addicting. But I’ve been reading up on blood pythons and I was wondering acouple things... How agressive are they? Why are they considered messy?

From what I’ve heard (I’ve got a Short-Tail at NERD right now waiting to be shipped) is that mainly the wild caught specimens are truly very aggresive. If you get a captive bred however they can be turned into tame giants when they are older. Baby’s and Juvies. are known to be nippy but with daily handling calm down quite nice I have heard. They are considered messy because of the big poo’s that they make, and for knocking down decor and knocking over water bowls.

Great web-site is www.bloodpythons.com

Mine aren’t to messy they both crap in the watter dish once a month yea most of the ones i have had in the past have been mean but their a joy to work with if u know wut ur doing these snakes require alot more time then bps and when they bit they can hit hard and fast i had a friend that a 7 foot female and it bit him in the leg and knocked him down a 5ft blood has more power in their bit than a 10 ft Burmese and can weight more then a 10 ft burm. If u ever see them strike they use their whole body and not just part of it they throw all of their weight forward at once and they have some big teeth now my male he is so and so hey does bit and sometimes he dont they got like an up urs attitude witch i like now the one im going to buy form a guy on this form who has got some really tame ones. But if ur up for a challenge go for it but do remember they need high humidity so dont use glass aquariums us AP cage or reptile plastic and they dont like light so use uth or ceramic bulb, and they have a weight problem so u got watch how much u feed em when their adults i would say 10 to 14 day diet

 Why are they considered messy?

hi redblood72,
i just bought a blood python today still very young maybe less then a foot very docile sanke holding him or her all the way home after i bought it , so far but need more infor on im use to balls, i was reading what SnakeGuy89 was saying about bloods and saying they dont like or dont need lighting or heating lamps he recumend undertake heater pads but i dont think that throws off that much heat to keep it at the the right temperture, any advise would be helpful, for my balls i use heating lamp and a inglow bub for at night , and a heating pad underneither, i think blood are different from what ive read so any advise would be help ful

I am SnakeGuy89, and heat pads do put off plenty of heat when attached to a decent thermostat(Ranco or Johnson). They’ll run you about $75-80 shipped.

They’re really the best choice by far when dealing with this species.

Chris78, could you recommend a site to purchase these thermostats. As of thus far im using a 500R by zoo med I believe. Its ok but the only thing I do not like about it is I cant set the temps digitally. I am currently looking for another one but pet stores by me don’t carry a lot of them.

Yeah, pet stores are kinda meh..

Normally I would recommend MgReptiles, but due to his downward spiral with his customer service and unreliable shipping. However, he does have a nice comparison sheet Link

I usually buy from Reptile Basics..but apparently their site is closed right now. You can still browse it, just not order anything over their online store. Check out the site though, you can still call them if you need the stat urgently.

 Why are they considered messy?

I bought my Johnson A419 Thermostat from here, http://www.dsreptiles.com/products.php. Very fast shipping and the owner is a great guy to deal with. I would suggest buying the pre-wired unit though unless you have some pretty good electrical wiring knowledge. If your going to keep this cage in your bedroom or living room I would just spend a little more on a helix or herpstat proportional thermostats cause this Johnson and the Ranco are both on/off type thermostats and they are a little noisy when they click on/off. I’m getting used to it now though.
