5 Very Important Blood Python Questions!

Some questions...

1) What is the biggest size tank for an adult Blood Python?
2) What is the smallest size to start out a baby?
3) How long will a 20 gallon tank house a Blood Python?
4) How many hides should I provide?
5) Should I put plants in to make hiding more secure?

5 Very Important Blood Python Questions!

and the answers to your questions are:
1) the biggest size i would say is 30 - 40 gallon
2) some people say 10 gallons are best for babies but i would say a 20 gallon ( will also last longer )
3) how long will it last it? well in my opinion blood pythons do grow slowly. my female i think is a year old and is still perfectly happy inher 20 gal but the male is a diffrent story =P Just use your common sence, when you see the cage not having much room for them to move around or anything etc its probably a good time to upgrade
4) i only have 1 hide with my bloods cages some say 2 is better but 1 has wroked fine for me, instead of 2 hides i have 1 big hide and 1 HUGE water bowl for them with a reptibark substrate.
5) i dont think live plants is a good idea with bloods. bloods are very big bodies and heavy snakes and would destroy a live plant by just slithering over it. but some artificial foliage woundnt hurt =P

Yes! they need a good humidity. I recomend trying to keep there humidity anywehre from 55 - 65. ( and a little secret i learned, if your blood keeps refusing foods rais the humidity to around 70 a day or two before feedign and that usualy works )
i dont use a heat mat for mine. i use a daytime and night time bulb. ( both are 75 watt ) instead of having a " basking " area i just have the ambient temp at 75 - 83 at all times. =)

it takes a while, in my opinion bloods grow very slowly, so plenty of time for you and him to " get to know each other " before his bites hurt lol, no worriestho theyre all HISS and no bite =P theyre great snakes, but it takes a few years for them to get six feet.

Lol ya theyre fat lil suckers =P Just be carefull not to over feed them. they often get obese from people over feeding them. jus tfeed them 1 aproperiatly sized rat once a weak and if your breedeing feed the female twice a weak untill she lays her eggs. even my lil female punds down full grown rats so even when babies and little they eat a big meal =)

Awesome...about adults in 40 gallon tanks though...I have a 7 foot burm in a 40 gallon tank and it looks small for a blood at 6ft. I know I don’t have to worry for a few years but is a 40 really going to be big enough for a 6ft, 40 pound snake?

1.) There is no such thing as biggest. Provide as big as you can and your snake will benefit from every inch of it. I read someone suggesting a 30-40 gallon, Ha. His body would take up the entire enclosure. It just shows you how so many snake keepers have been brainwashed into thinking that it is proper to keep them in such a manner.
2) I’d say nothing smaller than a 10 gal but a twenty would be better.
3) Not too sure but you’ll be able to tell when he’s too big.
4) I’d provide 3-4. One on the hot side, some on the cool side, one in the middle.
5)Of course. These guys are ambush predators. They love to be hidden and stalk their prey. Be sure to keep it nice and humid in there. I’ve used all sort of substrate with my blood. I currently use sphagnum moss kept moist with some leaf litter scattered on top and about two inches of gravel on the very bottom layer for drainage.
Good luck.

Steven.

I have to agree, a 40 gallon is not going to work for an adult blood.
