 Gerbils???

I been trying rat for a few weeks now but my girl wont even respond ive introduce 4 as of now and have left them in the cage with her overnight and so far nothing. I heard that gerbils are more nutritious too is there a problem with feeding gerbils?

 Gerbils???

is this the same blood that you have in the new enclosure you built? if so, Id try putting her in a rubber maid or something similar for a couple days, then try feeding again. from the looks of the pictures there dont seem to be too many hiding spots for her so maybe she doesnt feel secure. also you talked about how you were having trouble balancing the humidity and temp, so that could very well be the problem. just try putting her in an enclosure you know you can control well, just to see if the problem is the new cage. thats my advice. good luck.

as far as gerbils go, I dont think theres a problem feeding them to snakes, just more expensive. try the different cage before you try a gerbil, in my opinion.

 Gerbils???

No She eats gerbils in that cage like a machine, shed eat ten in a row in there and the humidity is fine but rquires a daily spraying. Im just trying to switch her over from gerbils to rats. Shes never turned down gerbil. Beleive it or not the only reason i started on gerbils is because they are cheaper where i am i get big gerbils for $1.25 each frozen so i started her off on them, but i plan to breed rats eventually cause there easier to breed then monogamous gerbils and that why i eventually intend to switch her and her new boyfriend over to rats. Sorry for the confusion.

 Gerbils???

ok cool. a good way to switch her over is feeding her a smaller food item first, and then offering her a rat after she finishes that. once they start eating they get into a more aggressive mood, as Im sure you know. it worked for me going from mice to rats. good luck.

 Gerbils???

drakey drakey how are thee pal?

you dont want to be chopping and changing mate trust me. Get them on rats asap and keep em on them you wont ever need to feed anything else then.

If you are having problems feeding in the tank use a separate container to feed them thats what I do. If they still give you problems stick them in a sack with a warm rat and leave alone for a couple of hours in a dark area inside a box etc.

Obviously you want to keep the enclosure bang on the money for humidity and temps that goes without saying do you just chuck the prey in or do you offer off tongs?

 Gerbils???

Hey Snakey its good to see you back in the forum postings, and yes i jiggle it around a bit to elict a feeding responce. Gerbils for me were always just more economical, because where i live rats are usually around $4.50 for biggies and i found a place that sells big old gerbils for 1.25. I do see the good in starting on rats however my Borneos dont seem to be as crazy about them as they are for gerbs. Mine just love them i think its the scent and i read that gerbils are addictive for snakes so i want to wean them on to rats eventually or i may not be able too ever. And i dont use sissy tongs i use my fingers its more exciting!!!!. hehehe thanks for the advice everyone
