Like any other snake, it’s of great importance to fit the cage to the snake, not the other way around. No matter how much you want it, their needs come first. A baby blood needs a small cozy cage. 10 gallon will do very well, or a small tub like a 6-12 qt. A juvenile needs a cage generally a 20 long, or a tub ranging from 28-32 qt. Now the tricky part, the 3 different species do range quite a bit in size as adults. Obviously the Red bloods are the largest, and along with the other 2 species will do very well in an AP cage, or 4x2x2. Although, the largest Red Blood girls might have to go bigger like a 6x2x2. It all depends on the size of your animal and their habits in feeding. If a blood is refusing to eat, or is very aggressive, I would go with the smaller size. Just like Ball pythons, they need to feel secure. If they spend a lot of time in their water bowl, it could be because they are insecure in their environment. I suggest reading the care sheets by NERD, VPI, and RedPythons.net. They are indepth and very thorough. It will teach you beyond basic husbandry and give you a look into why certain methods work better than others. Hope this helps! ;) |
