Blood Cage Setup Hello all...i am new to this forum. I am new to Blood Pythons. Just wanted to get your opinions on my baby Blood’s cage. Hot side is 88...cool side 79F. Humidity is about 65 percent. Its a 10 gallon tank. I have tried hides but he prefers to burrow under the cypress mulch. He also loves to soak in his water bowl. He was born on Feb 24th of ’08. I got him about 2 weeks ago. He ate on the night i got him but that was it. He hasn’t ate since. So about 2 weeks since his last meal. Im not to worried yet about him not eating this past week. But i wanted to get your opinions on his cage setup to make sure he is the least stressed as possible. Thanks in advance !!

Blood Cage Setup I would still offer him a snug hide. Bloods can get stressed just as easily as a ball python, they are just as secretive. Also, cover the back 3 sides with black paper or something to limit the amount of sides he can see out of.
If you offer him a snug hide, he will eventually use it. It’s not uncommon for them to burrow, but at least offer them the option to use a hide.
What size prey are you offering him? It’s been a long time since I had one so young, but I believe he really only ate every 2 weeks for a couple of months. We were feeding him FT pups from Rodent Pro, so they were still a good size for him. Not too big or too small.
Anyways, he’s looking good. Looks like a Borneo (Python breitensteini). Congrats on the pickup!

Blood Cage Setup theres a good chance hes in the water because there are no hides, just fyi. I had a glass aquarium setup similar to yours when I first got my blood, and with a damp towel over the screen like that its definately possible to keep the humidty where it needs to be (55-65%), but its sooooo much easier and a lot less upkeep with a plastic tub setup. also it might be hard to get the humidity up high enough during a shed (75-85%). if you do plan on keeping the glass, I recommend getting a humid hide in there during his shed cycles. good luck. he looks great.

Blood Cage Setup whats up man i don’t have any bloods but i have had over 7 bp’s and currently have a albino burm and two rtb’s. one trick that i learned that if you have a snake that likes to soak in the water bowl than you should go buy a plastic container that is plenty big enough for your snake and cut a hole in the lid of it so that your snake can get in and out of it then they will tend to use the water bowl as a hide on the cool side of the tank and then they still have a hide on the hot side of the tank. it also works well because then your snake will have plenty of soak time which will also make it shed really easy. so that’s just my two cents and the way that i found easiest.

Blood Cage Setup Ok...thanks for all the info guys and gals....i ditched the glass tank and followed all your advice. I went and bought the Sterilite 1754 Plastic Tub, 15-qt. Put holes in both sides of the tub, got newspaper for substrate, got a nice snug hide and a decent size water bowl for him to soak in if need be. Check out the pic and let me know what ya’ll think.
