Bloods are usually aggressive and refuse feed when their temps are too high. Review your husbandry and post any questions you may have concerning it.

Bloods do prefer cool temps, I keep mine right around 82-83 year round. If your temps are above 87 in the entire enclosure, you will have problems like you have described.

Check out VPI.com Blood Python care, and try to make your set up as close to the caresheet as possible. I have mine set up at the same temps and tub size. I have aggressive feeders, perfect sheds, and very calm well adjusted snakes.

If you have anything your unsure about, please ask away.

Hope this helps,

Connie

I should clarify my earlier post, 87 isn’t too hot if that is the Hot spot your offering in a large enclosure. THe hot spot should only cover about or lesst than 1/4 of the entirety of the enclosure to allow the snake ample room to move away from it.

If his ambient temps are above 87, I would think that is a key factor into his refusals.

Example:

Air temps (ambient): 80-81
Hot spot: 87-88
Humidity: 60-65+%

When given ample room and several hides, the bloods will move back and forth to thermoregulate. Always best to give them plenty to hide in, as they are ambush predators and hunt from home.

Looking forward to a successful update! ~Connie
