Crunch just struck at my face without warning

Well, I have had Crunch for about seven months; he is now nearing a year old. He has really grown over the last two months, and just finished a shed this morning. I took him out of his tank this afternoon, and was holding him wrapped around my arm like I always do. Without warning, he struck at my face...I felt him actually get some of the hair from my beard. Has anyone here ever tried to jump away from a snake that is wrapped around your arm?

Now for the serious questions: Should I not hold him this close after shedding? Or did the dummy think my beard looked (or smelled) like a rat? Why would he suddenly do something like this now, after being fairly mellow for seven months? And where can I buy a muzzle for the little *&!% ? Just kidding about the muzzle...

Any suggestions you have will be appreciated. If the little turd pulls that stunt again, he is getting traded in for a goldfish. A very tame goldfish. With no teeth.

If he has any size to him, forcing him to hold onto you may have rattled him as bloods are very poor climbers, and really need to feel secure when you hold them. Key word, actually "hold" them. Support their entire body with both hands. I’d be pissed too lol.

Usually bloods are very noisy and make it apparent they dont want to be picked up. If nothing else, they are still wild animals, expect anything from them. ;)
