 Incomplete shed

My snake just got through with his second shed. I have kept the humidity right around 60%, and even raised it during his shed. With the exception of his head it came off in one piece. Does anyone have any ideas on how to deal with this. I have heard to let them soak for about a half hour or so, but because it is his head I’m worried he may not submerge it enough. If anyone has any ideas I would love to hear. Thanks!

 Incomplete shed

Mikey:

Crunch rarely sheds entirely in one piece; the skin around his head typically comes off separately. Since he is in a 40 gallon terrarium, I have enough room to keep a 4" deep broiler pan in his tank, along with a rough-sided rock right in the middle of the pan. I keep about 2-1/2" of water in the broiler pan, which is almost enough to entirely cover him. I expect that the skin around your snake’s head will come off in the next day or two. If not, take everything out of his tank except a nice warm, wet towel. Leave him alone for half an hour, and he will probably get the rest of the skin off that way.

BTW: I keep Crunch at 60% humidity, and raise it to 65% during shed.

 Incomplete shed

All snakes should shed in one complete piece. 60-65% humidity is too low for shedding. 70% is better, 75 and 80% aren’t unheard of. I honestly wouldn’t worry about it. It’s more of a cosmetic blemish than anything. But if you’re like me, it bugs you more than the snake having bits of skin on him. Petey is right about what you can do to get that removed. Just next time you notice Carnage going into shed, bump the humidity to like 70% or so. And once he’s done, knock it right back down to low 60%. If he retains eyecaps after two or more sheds, then it might be time to head to a vet and get them professionally removed. Don’t do it yourself. Good luck with him!

 Incomplete shed

Yeah during his shed I bumped the humidity to about 70-80%. So it looks as if within a few days the pieces may come off, but if they don’t, during his next shed would he then shed two layers off of his head? I’m also just like you when it comes to his aesthetic qualities haha, I want him to look great and be perfectly healthy! Thanks for the tips catfish and petey
