Never thought I’d ever have to deal with something like this...

Hello everyone. First off i never thought i’d ever have to deal with a problem like this. Anyway, I think my Borneo blood python Bane, has mouth rott :(. His temps are perfect but i think i know how it happend. Awhile ago, i had to buy a jumbo live rat for him so i could pre kill it for him as my rat order didn’t come in on time. Anyway i got home and smacked the rat as hard as i could on the floor and thought it was dead. Gave it to Bane, and the rat woke up when Bane had it in his mouth. Any way, i think that rat might have bit him :(. I’ve never made such a huge mistake. I feel so terrible. Today i noticed there was something wrong as you can see in the pics. Sorry their not so clear. First i thought it was just swelling but now im starting to think that the injury might have triggered mouth rott. PLEASE help me :(. I’ve never had to deal with such a problem nore thought that it would ever occur with me. It would mean so much to me if you guys had any suggestions on what to do. I’ll continue doing research on the subject. ANY HELP WOULD ME MORE THAN GREATLY APPREACIATED.

That really is the best thing you can do, the quicker the better. Good luck for a speedy recovery.

never ever feed a live rat to your snake IMO each time you do your risking vet bills and damage to your snake. there is simply no need to feed live and I think its quite sad people get enjoyment from it in some cases. I am not saying you do by the way as its obvious you tried to despatch your rat for the snake.

Good luck with the snakes recovery make sure and have a Vet specialising in retiles or at least experienced in them take a look at it.

dude, I didn’t mean to feed my snake live because i smacked the rat as hard as i could on the ground and thought it was dead. It wasn’t my intentions for that rat to wake up. There was nothing i could do about it.

Anyway, nice my borneo isn’t nice enough to let me or the vet to actually go into his mouth, i have to administer 6 anti-biotic shots in his back every three days and he doesn’t put up with it so you can imagine how hard it is for me but i still wanna save him because he’s one of my favorite snakes in my collection. It’s gonna be hard but im just gonna keep him full and happy and his temps are perfect. 80 at night and 92 in the basking spot during the day. I’ll keep you guys posted.

Ive seen small animals knocked out similar to what your talking about before. I was at work changing some of our breeder bins and a hamster kicked it self out of my hands and landed on its back on the tile floor. it was still breathing a little bit but i thought it was dead. i set the animal aside and was going to feed it a litte later, a few minutes later it started to come back and it now acts like nothings happend.
