Question about my new Bermese pyton.

I just adopted a albino Burmese python 2/25/08. I was wondering if there are any good books anyone knows of for caring for one. I also wanted to know about how long it takes for them to finishing shedding. What should the humidity be in the cage. Also i was told based on how much you feed him is how fast he will grow, is this true? The last owners fed him a mouse every 3 weeks and he is currently 3ft long. Last and not least for now is a 29 gallon (30" by 12") tank good for his size, and if so at what size should I get a larger one?

One more question, they fed him in a separate cage saying that he knows the difference between feeding time and handling time that way, is this true or should i go get one of those handling hooks?

Jim’s Books!

This guy has awsome books on Burmese Pythons..Just scroll down to SNAKES. This book only costs $8.95+ shipping! It would take around a week to fully shed, Personally I don’t like keeping snakes in those Tanks, I would use rubbermaid or make a rack. Also don’t feed the Burm in 4 weeks! Every 10 Days you should feed him/her.

I never feed mine in a differnt cage, I hook train mine and if you feed them like that till they get big..wouldnt be pretty. If they get done eating and you try to pick them up!! Good luck! They stay in feeding mode for a few hours. Contact me if you wanna buy some really good hooks and need to know how to hook train:)

Elvia.

I agree because when they get larger where are you going to feed him at? They say to feed them in their secure enclosure that way you can quickly open the cage throw their meal in and shut and secure it back and then leave them alone for at least 24hrs. This way no accidents happen. The biggest cause for bites or worse is mistake in identity. People feed them in the open freely and fatalities has occurred.

Question about my new Bermese pyton.

I tried to use the contact thing but evidently I can not use it until i am a member for 4 or 5 days so if you get back to this I would love to know where to get some hooks from and how to begin training before he so big he is annoyed, etc. I looked at petsmart but did not see any. You can get a hold of me at

One more issue. The bedding I am using says not to feed on it because it could cause harm if ingested on accident, so what can I do about that? I am currently using " Four paws naturebark natural reptile bedding-specially heat treated to help eliminate parasites".

Should I use that plus something to help keep up the humidity? Just not as much so it is less likely to be ingested?
