 I want a Big snake

I have decided on getting a snake and my parents are now OK with it. My dad says that if i can handle and provide for it, get a big snake, because he would be willing to help me handle it when it gets big. I was leaning towards a Colombian Boa, but Burms are by far my favorite snake. I know Burms aren’t beginner snakes, but i have been saving up for three years with allowance, mowing money, birthday money, Christmas money, confirmation money, and other money that i have earned. So i have plenty of it. I was thinking of getting a male Burmese as a baby. I mean, doesn’t it take about 3 years to get to the full size of a Burm? I am not a normal teen snake/lizard keepere when it comes to reptiles, as i love to read things about snakes, plan things out, draw and measure for the cage, so i would be prepared. So, would a 12 sq foot enclosure be adequate full grown burm if i could get him out 2 or 3 times a week? And yes, i am aware of how big they get and how much they way, which is why i would get a male. Oh, and could you post pics of full grown males or a female the size of a full grown male? Thank you so much.

well it sounds like you have done your homework, good choice on a male for your first burm, 8’x 3’ is good for a full grown burm but the larger is always better. heres my male albino burm hes about 9’ and 50pounds and 5 yrs old roughly. my other male is 7’ and is 2 years old.

most people that buy commercial built cages get 6ft vision, animal plastic or some other brand . which IMO is just fine for a male burm. here is a pic of one of my friends with Diesel my 12ft albino burm and then a pic of me with diesel. most of the time they just lay around and dont take up much space, and coming out of the cage often is more beneficial for exercise anyway

Beautiful Burms! Grunt, is that male fully grown? Because my dad loves that snake and the size of it. I told him they would get about 2 or 3 feet bigger on average. Was i right?

hey slipknot u sure u wanna do this u will only be 14 by the time its 7 feet. as long as ure supervised you should do fine

and in terms of snake keeping i wouldnt say burmese are hard to keep or experienced they are a good beginner snake for anyone who has done research and can handle the large sizes and hazards of death. they feed well and have a gentle disposition usually there also quite robust in terms of housing and temperatures

(research told me this i have a burmese all lined up and bought but they wont hatch till june/july then i can go pick one probably gonna be a female)

I will DEFINITELY be supervised once it hits about 6 feet. If i got the snake out 2 or 3 times a week would a tank with 15 feet of floor space work for a full grown male?

I keep my adult males in 6 foot animal plastic and vision cages and they still ahve plenty of room to move around. I usually only get them out once a week for excersice and like shawn stated getting them out is excersice for them and you lol its a handful just getting them out of there cages and getting them back in. I have a female that was in a stack of ap cages she was in the second cage and I pulled her out and she wrapped her tail around the middle of the cage and pulled her cage and 2 others right off the stack lol.

diesel is almost 4 and he will get a bit bigger I am hoping he reaches 16 or 17ft, but on average you are right on about the average size for a male.

yea man thats the same thing I did. I got my 1st snake and it was a Male red-tail boa, which I still have and keeping him no matter how big he gets, I did my research but you’re going straight to the burms haha. My freind has 2 and those are his 1st snakes. My mother saw adult female boas and said they were pretty and if mine would get that big. Turns out I could of got a female after all haha. but you have your father who is willing to help you. I also want a burm but I need assistance when it gets big , I want a male normal or albino, and I have nobody right now to assist me. Everybody in my family are afraid of snake haha
Good luck
