Small story about my new burmese python

This february i decided to expand my reptile experience (13 years and 9 species isn’t really enough). I had ran out of space till i realised the roof is the limit. so i decided to finish off my snake collection untill i move out with something special, something that dwarfs my current species, i couldn’t house a retic or a green conda but there was that one species i always looked at in awe. Burmese pythons. So i did what anyone would do i started searching where i could or a burmese locally the best i could find was an albino to be hatched in july so i paid for it.

however...the other day going into a shop locally a very small local shop (i like window shopping) i looked into the tanks and i saw as follows Yemens chameleon in a tall tank took a while to look at it then moved along a tortoise of some sort took some time to wonder if the substrate was actually food for them or not. Look across an impressive 2 foot bearded dragon named fred. Below him was some baby bearded dragons. Next was a red and black coloured king snake of some sort. then an unlabeled tank i crouched to look inside sat in a water dish was a 3 foot burmese python normal i had him taken out and gave him a close inspection. His eyes weren’t dented or damaged, his colours where great, and he wasn’t under or over weight. He just came out of a perfect shed. So i asked about the little fella heres a more or less direct qoute of what she said

Quote:

well we got him in in january. He was 4 months old at the time. He was bought by a young man about 14. Of course he didnt know about the snake and someone told him they can reach about 16 feet so he dumped him here for us to sell.

as if this wasnt bad enough this qoute may shock some of you

Quote:

when he took it in it was freezing, he brought the tank in the day before he brought the snake in. When he brought in the snake it was thin he thought it needed to be fed once a month (bare in mind guys the snake is not even a year old) and didn’t provide a water bowl. And he never misted the tank, when we got him in we were told that it was a male and that he couldn’t keep it.

and now something to reinstal some hope in non specialist pet stores

Quote:

I’ve been waiting for the right keeper, theres been a lot of interest in him but i always warn them that it can get to 16 feet and that he is not a snake for the beginner. But to be honest you know more about keeping him than i do. I was hoping that you or someone with similar knowledge would take him in

im a regular so she knows me quite well and now ive put a deposit on the snake who’s been named Rambo since the best movie ever is the new rambo film set in burma.

ill post ya’all some photo’s at some point just wish i could still get that albino but hey i haven’t got the space and following grunts advice for tank size possibility for well handled snake i can just about house ONE.

peace all

Small story about my new burmese python

ok sorry it took so long my other account is banned so i had to get around to making a new one

this is the little guy or girl (should know this week) in it’s temporary enclosure which is a 3 high x 2.5 high x 2 wide tank which i will keep him in until he reaches 6 feet by which time the permanent enclosure will be ready for him and the red tail boa

here’s a few shots at the pet store

each tile is a one foot square so as u can see for 8 months he’s still a bit small

my sister handling the new snake

my hand plus snake

head shot

i haven’t caught him doing this since getting him home
