Really.... I bought millie at 8 weeks old and she was that way, i think its a birth deffect.

I posted about her on another forum and here is what some said:

"I have several burms with much greater degrees of spinal deformities, all around where their umbilical cords would be, which is what it looks like in your snake too, and mine are all growing and have had no problems, I wouldn’t worry too much about it."

"I’ve seen babies come out with that indention. It seems to typically be around where the embilical cord is attached while in the egg. I’m not sure what causes it honestly. but it seems to be a deformity or underdevelopment of the ribs and/or spine.

The only worry is if the area doesn’t ’grow’ with the rest of her body. If it stays small or underdeveloped then there could be issues. I’ve taken them to the vet for x-rays before to check and see if the area was growing well enoug for a normal lifespan as well.

Basically if the burm is having normal bowel movements and eating well, I’d just go with it and see how it does. But a check up may help ease your mind"

Yea Nicci has had the lump since she was born too! I got her from a friend of ours in Indiana...He has a huge breeding complex and does the shows with us here in Michigan. I just thought that was weird they were both the same and granite! Ice shed yesterday he looks beautiful but hes still a lil shakin up from the trip here. I tried to pull him out last night but he was all hissy and not wanting nothing to with it and Michael has him in a tank thats above my head so I didn’t try any harder..lol..I figured we would just wait til this weekend when Michael can get him out for me!!

they are developmental problems when the snake is an infant the bones mutate due to irregular calcium distribution. you will see this most often time in female red tail boas, however it occurs in other popular pet species. female snakes have a much greater chance of occurring this problem. some vet think it is occurring in the popular pet species because breeders will inbreed to get better color morphs (inbreeding is bad), or they are tumors.
good luck.

If i was to take a guess i"d say its from years of inbreeding to acquire different morphs. German shepards have some problem with their back hips maybe the lump is the burmese equivelant. You cant breed relatives and expect the genetics to work out.

It is and isn’t developmental in a sense. Each one you ever see this way was born/hatched that way. It’s just some are worse/more visible than others. Then as they the snakes grow and develop the area and condition typically worsens.

Its often from incubation issues, whether folks even realize it or not. Fluctuation in temps and/or humidity. As well as evaporitive cooling from too much airflow.
