Burm pees alot. Is that normal?

So my green burm urinates everyday. is that normal? A lot of times it’s quite a bit. It’s almost always completely liquid. The only time any of it is solid is when she poops, there is some solid white in there. I just wanna make sure that it’s normal. Thanks.

bjk666,

Some will and some won’t. Describe your husbandry for us to better help the answer you’ll receive. Temps on hot side/cool side and or basking spot (if you have one), humidity, substrate, size of enclosure, size of water dish.

I’m not asking all this to say it’s something bad but it seems your Burm gets a lot of water. Is it from drinking or prey? If your husbandry is set up properly it shouldn’t be drinking too often which in this case it seems as though it is. From my experience this means the enclosure could be too hot or not humid enough. Your snake might be trying to compensate for this by drinking a lot more. One way I was able to keep the humidity just right was to have a large enough water dish for my snake/s to drink out of and soak their entire body should they want to do so.

Also, what are you feeding? F/T, F/K, P/K or alive? Whichever you are, try giving it a good soak in luke warm water or if alive wetting it down. This will help your snake get more water intake. With doing this I’ve never seen my snakes have to drink much. Believe me I watched them a lot and always offered a good sized masonry tub of water daily. Mine would pitch a liquid load roughly every 4-5 days along with any fecal matter from the prey item I had recently offered. The only time I ever saw any of my Burms or Retics pitch a liquid load other than that was if I gave them a bath in the tub. Then they would drink, soak and eventually do so.

Hope some of this helps you out or answers what you wanted to know. If not, answer what I asked and let’s see if anything is wrong. I’m sure it’s nothing, nothing serious anyway. This is all just part of the "fun side" to keeping these big guns, lol!

Well I have her in a 30 Gallon Long Tank for the time being. I use Aspen bedding or newspaper. I usually have about 50% - 60% humidity. I bump it up to around 80 when she’s in shed. The hot end of the tank is around 85-90. and the cool around 75-80. I have a 1 Gallon Tupperware tub in there with water. I think I will try a bigger water dish, so she can soak. I’m not sure if she could fit in the one that’s in there any more. I feed F/T. Right now she gets 2 Medium Rats a week. Thanks for the suggestions.

bjk666,

Well my friend there is nothing wrong. The problem is coming from how often you feed. If husbandry is 110% then that is why it’s going so much and so often. Like I said, this is one of the "fun things" about keeping the big guns. I’d still check the water for mites since your using Aspen Bedding. I had that problem when I first started with snakes over 5 years ago. But I highly doubt that is it. Just sounds like the amount of food your offering is being broken down quickly enough and that results in more "fun" for you.

Snakeman82,

Probably have the same thing going on as bjk666. Most snakes do not like their tails touched and out of defense will either run, piss/poo on you or the latter would be to strike. Most flee or spray. Other than that sounds fine to me.

So there’s nothing that needs to be done right? Well i always check for mites and have found none on any of my reptiles yet. I can deal with the excessive urination. I just wanted to be sure that, sometimes it just happens. Thanks

bjk666,

I’m pretty darn sure there is nothing to worry about. If it is still making you feel like something is up the only other step would be to schedule a Vet. appointment. Hope everything works out!

yea i talked to a buddy of mine who is really big into snakes and he says that one of his berms does it to he says they will especially do it after the first year until close to there second year when there growing slows down its just that right now they grow so fast and eat so much that there body is processing the food so quick but he said that it should slow down or stop around when they are about two. and just for a heads up if you can avoid them squirting on you from being scared do it because it stinks so bad and it just lingers for a long time.

Well it apprears that it did have alot to do with her food. She hasn’t eaten in a while i think because she’s in shed and she really hasn’t peed lately. She’ll be shedding in the next couple days, so i’ll be ready to be changing the bedding everyday again.
