R.I.P. Ambrosia
Hey just so I can get it out there to those of you who knew of him, Ambrosia my oldest Burmese has died. I have had him for almost 6 years and he has grown to become one of my most important family members. I think the worst part about it all is that it’s my fault. He hadn’t eaten for so long and I was worried that he would die from it so I started to get desperate. I did the one thing I stress for all snake owners to never do, I left the rat alone with him. I checked on him last night and he was fine, still doing his own thing. This morning I went in and was going to just take the rat out and feed it to my younger Burm to find that my baby had suffered a terrible death. I feel like complete and udder . So I leave you with this, the same thing I have said for years and years, NEVER and I mean NEVER leave live feed with your animal. My desperation and ignorance have cost the life of a truly close friend, something I will never forgive myslef for.
This is for you buddy. The whole family will miss you, especially me. You have helped me through a lot, and kept me distracted when things were rough for me. If not for you I don’t know how I would have survived some of the things I have. There were many times when I felt like I had nothing but you. You have helped to change many minds, and gave many people a whole new aspect on snakes. If not for you I wouldn’t have the knowledge or the Love for the hobby that I do now. You have tought me so much in so little time. Love you buddy. R.I.P.

R.I.P. Ambrosia It was the rat. I never feed live, but it has been so long since he ate I was desperate. I talked to him last night, then went to pull the rat if he hadn’t eaten it to feed to my other Burm, but it was to late. Chunks of my babies head were gone. Please learn from this guys, live feed is never the answer.

R.I.P. Ambrosia Wow, I am sorry to hear that. I would never want that to happen to my snake. Did he try to eat it or did it just attack him?

R.I.P. Ambrosia your snake died because you left a rat in with your snake and the rat ate part of your snake and killed it?? if thats true that is one of the most irresponsible things i have heard.. its a little harsh at a time like this but it could have been avoided so badly.. do you have other snakes? i hope you don’t do this with them too

R.I.P. Ambrosia HEY Dumerilsboafan
i think he knows what he did wrong.. a little more than you.. and if you read what he wrote you would understand that..
He is obviously in pain because of the death of his pet/friend/family member.
. Maybe show a little compassion...????
Sorry to hear about your burm man....

R.I.P. Ambrosia wow sorry to hear this. Never heard of a rodent killing a snake, only hurting them. Im glad I switched to dead. Will never feed live again unless absolutely necessary.

R.I.P. Ambrosia Sorry to hear about this and I am happy you are warning others from your own mistakes hope people listen like alot of others people don’t really learn until it’s too late. One question I have is looking at the size of your burm why would u be feeding it a rat that is such a small prey item for a 6 yr old burm, my burm is going on 2 and roughing about 8 ft and been on rabbits for awhile now. Did you think maybe he wasn’t hungry cause the prey item was too small for him?

R.I.P. Ambrosia I don’t usually post on this forum anymore, but sorry to hear about this man. and to the poster above me, you can clearly tell it is eating a rabbit in the second picture. I have went through the same thing with a bp a few years ago, and will never feed live again.

That is from the original poster, so my question was why was he feeding a rat, I seen the pics and I seen there was a rabbit so why i was asking is cause u don’t normally downgrade food size!!

R.I.P. Ambrosia he probably figured a rat would be a safer bet to leave alone with the snake than a rabbit.

R.I.P. Ambrosia I’ve had luck giving problem feeders smaller food items in the past... and once I got them eating i would upgrade to their normal prey size...

R.I.P. Ambrosia I have heard of people downsizing for picky eaters or scenting prey items aswell, I was just curious as I don’t hear of 2 many 6 yr old burms being picky/problem eaters. but I was just responding to the person who stated there was a rabbit in pic and was clarifying my statement/question before either way was a sad loss and hope people take the time to weigh pro’s and cons about live feeding and if they choose live to take the time to watch and protect there snake
