 DWARF BURMESE?????

I bought a Burmese Python 7 months ago from our local Pet Shop. I was told she was 6 months old. At 1 year 1 month old she is 3 feet long. Have I bought a Dwarf without them knowing what it was??? I feed her 1 large mouse a week, she is kept warm and moist. So her life has been normal, so I dont see how she is so small. I dont know much about the dwarfs but believe she might be. Any body know about the dwarfs????

 DWARF BURMESE?????

I seriously doubt its a dwarf.. they run a pretty high price tag and a local pet shop is not going to have them.

What are the temps, humidity, and her enclosure?
You are not feeding her enough... A hatchling burm should be eating rat pups atleast once a week, there is really no point in feeding a burm mice ever since they are easily able to take rats straight from the egg.

 DWARF BURMESE?????

The thing is, the Pet Shop where I bought this snake are people I know, and they dont know crap about alot of snakes. I have all of the temps and heat, amd humidity down pat. I work in Animal Education, but this snake (burmese) I have never owned. I just work with them. The ones at work are 10 and 15 feet. This little guy or girl just has not grown as fast as I have seen other pythons grow. She looks awsome, eats well, sheds well and is moderately active and very sweet natured. I just looked into the Dwarf Pythons and she is seeming to fit into their growth rate. These people can be annoying and it would be funny someday to tell them they sold me a $1000 snake for $79. LOL I dont know, but it will be interesting to watch her as she grows. WHAT DO YOU THINK??? Thanks for writing back so soon. PP

 DWARF BURMESE?????

I think you are not feeding her enough, that is why she isn’t growing like a burm should..
Again, what are the temps and humidity? What is her enclosure like? Hides etc? I can’t help you if you won’t give me more information..

 DWARF BURMESE?????

Her enclosure is glass. Daytime temp 85-90. Nighttime 75-80. Her mice are the same width as her girth. Humidity 65-70%. her hide is a wooden box with the bedding kept moist. Not super moist, but moist enough for the humidity level. She always eats every Wed. faithfully. She is just small. Not underweight or underfed. So go figure?

 DWARF BURMESE?????

I fed mine mice to use up a supply of frozens that I did not need any more and the whole time I used mice he did not grow well at all.
As soon as I switched to rats my burm started growing at a rapid rate in a year he reached 9 feet

 DWARF BURMESE?????

Make sure you are giving her a temperature gradient.

Switch her to rats asap. A 3ft burm can easily take a small rat once a week. If you start feeding her more she will shoot up.

has it not been healty for her with mice? Are rats (even small ones) going to be too large?. Did you see the pic? her girth is the size of a large mouse

 DWARF BURMESE?????

Is the gradient the other side of the enclosure? She is in a 55 with a heat pad and light at the end where her hide box is. The other end has her water dish. I am getting ready to add a humidifier that I bought online, so I do not have to constantly wet the bedding and her. It sits outside the cage, adding a fine mist to her enclosure. Because the humidity I am sure fluctuates.

 DWARF BURMESE?????

Having a temp gradient means one side is warm and the other is cool. Since they are cold blooded they need to be able to regulate their body temp... Aim for 80-82 on the cool side and 90 on the warm side..
A humidifier is probably unnecessary , humidity really only needs to be between 50 and 60%.
You’ll be surprised what a burm can get down, they are not like other snakes, they can handle meals larger than their girth easily.
