What type of python should I get

Me and my boyfriend want to get another snake. We already have 2 red tails, corn, milk, and a king.
We want a python. What do you think we should get? I don’t want a burm or a retic because they get to big. I used to have a ball so I would like to get something different. We would like soemthing that gets about 6 or so feet.

white lips, macklots, super dwarf retics, carpet pythons ( of any sort really, just watch out for coastals, they can get quite a bit over 6 feet * cough cough * possibly 12-13 feet, 8 feet or so is more the norm ) childrens pythons get up to 6 feet. and many many more.

the white lips and macklots generally arent the nicest snakes in the world though, i dont know if you mind a 6 foot bitey python.

Yeah I’ve always loved the look of a white lip myself, and I have a retic. A carpet is always a good choice too, fairly well known for being good snakes. Theres so many out there liek sully said to try and list them all, I also have had my eye on a olive python, which get over 6 though.

Just if I had to choose, whitelip or a carpet but it’s your call.

Childrens dont get 6ft they get 3ft , coastals dont get 13-14 either! they prolly get 12 tops and thats very rare they usually get around 6-9ft
Other then that I suggest a jungle carpet, blood python, chondro (I see you have experience with snakes soo im putting that out their)

Be careful, a dwarf retic is still a retic, and it has the potential to cause some serious damage. 9 ft never seemed very dwarfy to me.

1) I have seen a 6 foot childrens python with my own eyes. and yes coastal carpets have reached lengths of 13 and 14 feet, i DID state that that was not very normal and that 6-9 feet was more likely.

and dwarf retics ( females ) can still reach 15 feet.

Ok well if you ’’have seen’’ a 6ft childerens python that you but what thats maybe the only one in the world thats hard to belive. And the dwarf retics dont alll grow up to 15ft. Thats only big jampea females yes I have seen a 14ft jamp female but theirs other dwarf species.

the key word would be CAN. super dwarfs have a body type resembling an adult black rat snake.

I second that. Because trying to decide on a 3ft or 6 ft childrens python, or a 9 ft or 15 ft dwarf retic is way to much work! We can all basically agree in the size of a carpet.

Get a southern retic lol just kiddin ive seen some captive ones get over 34 feet a little more than what you wanted hehe. Seriously though jungle carpet python. They are great snakes. Check out kingsnake.com I just emailed a guy about buying one of his gorgeous yearling super highlighter yellows. The sale price he said would be about $140. Thats a steal !!! The best part about the vendors on kingsnake.com is that you can negotiate prices sometimes.

longest reliable records of a snake was 33 feet and some odd inches and weighed over 500 pounds, it was shot and killed in sulawesi in 1912.

i guess my point is; no there is no 34 foot snake in captivity.

but no retics for OP please.

Your probably correct Sully, my point is that any snake over 25 feet is a little too big for most people.

What type of python should I get

I would get a jungle carpet.

their nippy when their young and they only get to 6-7.5ft(so i was told) if i was you i would look at the care sheets about different types of pythons.

They should say about lengths, or you go to the same place/places that you got the other snakes and ask if you can have any information on them or if they have a carpet and ask if they can show you one that is fully grown or the oldest that they have.

I only know of 3 which are, coastal, jungle and irain jaya.

I’m getting a jungle as my first snake.

Hope this helps and good luck with what ever you choose!

Jungles get 4 1/2 -6ft not 6-7 1/2. Jungles are ok but nothing special special. If you want something to handle and play with alot get a coastal carpet.

Quote:

Adults usually reach 4.5 to 7 feet in length

<-- that was from wikipedia type in jungle carpet.

Quote:

Size- Average size in captivity 6-7 feet enclosure

<--This is a link that i got this quote from.Link
2 links that say that the go up to 7ft. it may not be a 7 1/2 but so what 1/2 extra isn’t that much.
There’s a coastal that’s 8.5ft so if your looking for a bigger snake then go for a coastal but if your going for something smaller go for a jungle or something like that.

jungle carpets size can range anywhere from 4.5 feet to 8 feet.

and remember females get bigger length and girth wise.

a male will probably be around 4.5 feet to 6, the biggest 8 but thats rare.

there have been some females that got to almost 10 i heard but that is extremly rare.
