 Help with Bredli not eating

Help is needed.

It has been 4 weeks since I brought him home and Cricket has still not eaten. He is an adult male and about 6’4". The guy at the shop said he ate on 4/24, but who knows?

I’ve tried live rats, fresh killed rats, feeding in dark tupperware containers, used tongs etc. I’ve tried leaving him alone and not handling him for a full week.

The tank is 85-92 in the hot end and 75-80 in the cool end.

His temperment is great. He is inquisitive and seems to enjoy being handled. I don’t know if snakes "enjoy" anthing, but you know what I mean.

I’ve tried everything everyone has suggested and I’m starting to worry. I’m going to leave a fresh killed rat in the tank overnight and hope.

His skin is getting looser by the day and his body is feeling softer and softer; he is losing muscle tone. I really like this guy and want him to thrive.

I will take any suggestions I can get.

D

He may be sheding... When I first got my new chondro he wouldent eat for me for 2-3 weeks then finally he got the rat!
Keep teaseing him with the rat. I would suggest trying chicks that might work...

 Help with Bredli not eating

Are you handling him the same day you try feeding him? How often are you feeding him? Bredli are very sensitive to handling before a meal. Some snakes it doesn’t matter, but I know my Bredli at least is very touchy about that. How often are you offering food? you should wait at least a week after a refusal, too many food offerings at a time will often result in the snake being tremendously stressed out and in the end, refusing to eat.

I don’t handle him for at least a day or two before trying to feed.

I offer food every Friday.

I really like this animal and I’m worried about his health. His skin is getting looser and he doesn’t look great.

I will say, when I have him out, he behaves inquisitively and is a pretty strong climber with a good grip.

SRA, you are the only Bredli owner who has responded to any of my posts on a few sites. If you have any other advice or info, I’d really appreciate your help. These guys come from a much different habitat than other carpets and their care is not exactly the same.

I am determined to get him into proper shape.

Thanks,

D

I would love to help you out, my bredli is probably my favorite snake right now. how big is your guy? what are you offering for food? what size cage do you have him in? what are your temps and humidity? answering these questions may just answer the problem.
