Heating help Would an infrared heat bulb exo-terra or zoomed show much red light if I used a fluorescent? I have a fleuorescent hood on my python’s cage right now, but it has been way too cold since my other bulb burned out. I used a standard 60 watt incadescent and the heat would get up to just under the right level. But the color of light from the incadescent took over all light from my fluorescent bulb. I like the fluorescent bulb much better and I think i should use an infrared bulb. My main question is, if I used an infrared, would the red light from this bulb show a great amount of red if I used it with my fluorescent? One of my primary goals is to find a good heating source without the use of ceramic heaters while primarily maintaining the color of light given off by the fluorescent.
I plan to use a 100 watt infrared running on a basic thermostat. Is this too much wattage? I need to get the area under the bulb to at least 90 degrees, and the distance from the cage top to the basking area is about 20 inches. Will this work well?
Any pics and comments are welcome

Heating help How well could I use a "nightglow" moonlight heat lamp? Would a 75 watt get hot enough?

Heating help Assuming that you are only turning the florescent light on during the day, you could use a regular (white) incandescent light instead of the red one to heat the cage during the day and just allow it to cool at night. As long as it doesn’t get too cool at night, its okay. You didn’t say what size cage you have or what kind of snake it is. Have you tried using an undertank heater? I use an untertank heating pad for my kingsnake and turn on a flourescent light during the day. The heating pad just stays on day and night on a thermostat.
Hope this helps.
